USA Custom "Unzipped" graphic

Is anyone familiar with this graphic, or have any info on the rarity of it? Just curious how many of these might be floating around. Thanks!

Re: USA Custom "Zipper" graphic

Hey Axe, I have not seen too many of the zipper graphics around but pretty much all of the graphic series are rare in my book.

What side of town you on?

Once there was a link

http://web.archive.org/web/201012170...y-uscg-ron.htm

which doesn`t work anymore. Dan Lawrence said in a interview, that he only made ONE of this "unzipped" guitar.

Itīs the rarest UCGR of all.

Congrats!

Seriously????!!!!! Wow. That link appeared to be dead, so I couldn't read anything. Well, fortunately this belongs to a friend. He'll be happy to hear the news.

The 92UCGR5 is an RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1992. It was produced in the United States as part of the Custom Graphics series of the USA Custom line. The Custom Graphics models feature bodies which are handpainted in California by American artist Dan Lawrence with a variety of images.

The 92UCGR5 features a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret maple fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include a DiMarzio Tone Zone humbucking pickup at the bridge paired with a DiMarzio Fast Track single-coil at the neck, a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge, a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines.

This represents only the "stock" configuration, as customers could customize the guitar to their own desires. The customer could select the pickup configuration and pickups, the fretboard material and inlays, the headstock, the hardware color and more.

The 92UCGR5 was discontinued after 1992 along with the rest of the USA Custom line.
Search "92UCGR5" on the ibanez Wiki .... I can't post the link ......

Re: USA Custom "Zipper" graphic

So I managed to follow the magical link (the link to ibanez_register_com is censored because it was infecting people with viruses when it still worked), so that's why the link didn't work.

And that's what's the website says:

More USA Custom Graphic notes
including some production numbers
By Ron and artist, Dan Lawrence

As I mentioned before I haven't been getting anywhere in my search for information regarding actual numbers of the hand-airbrushed Ibanez UCGR guitars that I have, so I decided to try to obtain it directly from the source, Mr. Dan Lawrence himself. He was kind enough to provide the following insight:

"The Cosmic Swirl 1's and Grim Reapers, 20-25 each give or take. Only about 10 of the Cosmic Swirl 2's. The hard one to get would be the Swamp Creature; maybe like 5-6 of those."

Additionally

Well I found an old receipt book. Time frame was from 11/19/90 to 4/6/92 the list goes:
UN Zipped -1
Grim reaper-19
cosmic swirl-11
No Bones-13
Ice World-16
Angels depart-39
Cosmic Swirl 2- 8

I still did a few more but It stopped towards the end of the year as I recall...So there ya go.

So, there we have it. I kind of figured the numbers would be very low, given that Ibanez offered the UCGR line for only about a year and a half AND that there were many different themes as well. Indeed, as he stated in your past interview with him, "I'm only one man with one brush!"

Ron

I loved ibanez register. I am software engineer and I'm thinking about setting a new website like that. Would there be an interest?
