USRG20 value?

I have a USRG20 that I'm thinking of selling to fund a different guitar,I've owned it since '95 its in really good shape, but I have no idea what I should be asking for it.It's kind of an odd duck due to the tension free neck, but I've never had a issue with it.Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: USRG20 value?

You don't see them come up very often (if at all...lol) so figuring a price is difficult. Do you have pics? what's the condition? Do you have the original USA case for it?

Give us any info you can think of....that will help a lot.

Welcome to Jemsite man!!!!!

Re: USRG20 value?

Thanks for the welcome.I'm at work right now but I can try to post pics this evening,I'd say its in great shape, the only thing I can think of is that some of the plating on the bridge is a little worn from playing. It has the amber colored book matched maple top and all the electronics are stock. The case was damaged years ago,so I no longer have it,I wish I did.

Don't worry about the bridge plating, it's common and expected. The case would be a big helper, but not a deal breaker for most folks. Looking forward to seeing the pics!!

There's one on 3bay for 1.9k now.

Does the tension free neck change or improve the way you play it?

yeah but that's a pretty unrealistic price. even usrg30's don't go for near that.

Re: USRG20 value?

That guy is absolutely dreaming. USRG20's really aren't worth all that much. Only the 30's really fetch any significant money and a lot of people would opt for a J.Custom over them. I've owned a USRG30 and two JC's and the JC's are hands down better guitars.

I personally didn't like the tension-free neck. Way less stable than any Fujijen neck I've had. And the fretwork out of the factory was a joke. Mine needed a fair amount of work to play well. It played well after having a qualified person work on the neck, but it still needed constant truss rod tweaks.

Re: USRG20 value?

I'm going to have to figure out how to post a decent pic..lol.Anyhow the neck has never been an issue for me,I had it set up for 11's when I bought it,never had to mess with it since. As long as I used the same brand of strings and kept it tuned the same, its been golden.

I went through a stage for about 5 years that I didn't even touch it,I had a PRS that I played mostly, but money got tight and it had to go.

Which JC's have you owned (older models or the new ones?)...I'm currently debating whether to pick up a JC or USRG10/30 at the moment. Any insight would be appreciated.

JCRG8520 (sold)

I always described this guitar as a nicer RG3120 with an Ultra neck and an Edge Pro. The differences are hard to see in pics, but there are just a bunch of nice finishing touches to the guitar that are missing on an RG3120. The neck was actually narrow (42mm nut) and while it claimed to have a Wizard profile, it had the thickness of an Ultra neck. I actually found it extremely comfortable to play and preferred it over my RG3120. I eventually sold it because I bought:

JCRG8670

I love this guitar. It has a Super Wizard neck profile, ebony board and vine of life inlay. I put a D-Sonic in the bridge.

This is my old USRG30:

It was a great looking guitar and people were always impressed with the looks, but I didn't really think it was that great of a guitar. Besides the neck which I didn't like, the top was in no way AAA grade. This has been a consistent knock against these guitars. There was no masked natural edge "binding", the offset dots were plain white instead of abalone, the neck binding was regular old white. It was probably a really high end looking guitar for 1996, but the current JC's are a better guitar.

Re: USRG20 value?

So,all things aside, would 750 plus shipping be a fair asking price considering I don't have the oem case?

Re: USRG20 value?

Well I sold the USRG30BT for $1150 in 2004 with that random case, but that guitar was really close to dead mint. The prices definitely went up since then, but have come back to probably around there since. You might be able to get $750 for a USRG20.
