I think it looks incredible. Credit to merman_93, he posted the link over at the official Ibanez site.

Awww, sorry man, didn't realize you posted it too.

Yep, awesome job. Anyone here tried a Variax? I'd like to have a go on one.

Re: Variax guts in an RG -- looks MAD!

I just traded mine for my RG7321

if you play country, rock, jazz, blues, just about anything besides palm muting its fantastic otherwise there is a ping sound from the piezo's that will drive you insane.

But other than that its awesome and the ability to downtune, and alternate tune is perfect.. I liked it and probably someday will buy another one.. When I find a need for it.

I never got how variax's worked, someone enlighten me to where the pick-ups are? Lol don't flame me for not knowing, I've never picked one up! Looks good though, besides the fact that the chrome on the saddle looks more satin than the rest.

yeah if you look at the saddles, there are small wires going into the guitar from them. played one over a bose system, and man, it blew me away. different tunings with the turn of a knob. pretty amazing how it works actually.

It almost looks like it could be invisible. Nicely done, that is very nice.

The sounds are very cool, and pretty flexible if you go straight into the PodXT Live floorboard (I think that's the one, the new one). Certainly, to me anyway, the biggest drawback of the system is the guitar itself. I tried the 700, which I believe is the top of the line one, and it was very reminiscent of a canoe paddle (IMHO, YMMV). If you could get one like this guy's custom, with an Ibanez neck and body, I think you'd have a pretty good setup for recording. It's fun technology, and definitely worth a trip to a GC to check out for an hour. The 12 string sounds through the PodXT Live will make you smile; they're very realistic sounding. The guitars themselves just aren't that great though. I know Warmoth sells direct replacement parts, but you shouldn't have to pay to upgrade a guitar's neck and body; that's nuts.

Re: Variax guts in an RG -- looks MAD!

Id buy that as just a piezo equipped version as is. That thing looks frickin awesome bro. ibanez should rip off your ideal and sell those as cheap piezo only models :P

I've considered a Variax RG project as well, but never thought to use a full mirrored top to cover the guts. That's VERY cool!
