Warmoth 28 5/8" on an Ibanez S?

So since I will be having two S's, I really dont want both to have 22 frets, so im looking into that 24fret conversion mod (Anyone have links to the threads? I couldnt find them at all)

I was looking at the Warmoth 28 5/8" baritone necks.. I figure with abit of shaping of the heel, the S pocket is pretty much a fender pocket right? (my Carvin neck fits into the S pocket pretty good) so wouldnt one of those Warmoth 28 5/8" necks work to make my S a 24 fret guitar??

http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/necks/...ckson_baritone

Anyone have info on this, or any info in general on the 28 5/8" 24 fret S conversion mod?

thanks.

I'm pretty sure that wont work, if the guitar is originally 25.5" scale. You would have to move the bridge and the pickups and everything..

I could be wrong though..

well.. why wouldnt it work? The Warmoth conversion necks are made for 25.5" arent they? Or are they made for 25"?

The entire point in the Carvin necks is that they are CONVERSION necks.

I just don't see how it would work, putting a 28 5/8" scale neck on a 25.5" scale body.. Iunno.

How can you not see?

It is just a neck which leaves the distance from the bridge to the nut at 28 5/8". It's not difficult to understand - the neck is just a little bit longer.

A NORMAL baritone neck wouldn't work, as when a guitar is made to be a baritone, the bridge is further back so the neck can be shorter. However, here, the neck is long enough for the bridge to just stay where it is.

I was told it will work but intonation will be a pain in the a$$.

If it's an S series with the original heel (not AANJ) you can get an RG 24 fret neck on, but you will have to relocate the neck pickup somewhat.

Re: Warmoth 28 5/8" on an Ibanez S?

I think the point is moot because Nick was getting the bodies from me and ended up getting a different guitar. But that being said, I think the baritones are made to be direct replacements for Strat scale necks. The key is that they are 24 frets, so that takes into account the extra 1.5" or so the joint would have to be from the body for the 12th fret to still be 1/2 way - which is pretty much what Zero 7 said.

I thought S series were 25.0 inches scale? A sort of compromise between strats and LPs...

Re: Warmoth 28 5/8" on an Ibanez S?

I know the S-Classics, and possibly the SZs, are 25", but as far as I know the regular S series is 25.5". At least all of the ones I've owned have been, both with the AANJ and square heel. With the exception of my SF470, which is 24 3/4".
