What would you pay for a used Washburn EC29?

A friend of mine picked up a near mint one last year or 18 months ago for $400, and judging from the crap trem and second rate pickups on the thing, that's what it's worth. I've seen lots of these and the 36's presented as "Made in USA", but don't believe it. My friend (Accept2 on the JCF) actually has a significant Washburn collection including a number of the Jackson-designed USA series, and he has made contacts within Washburn's corporate offices while documenting his guitars, and he has established that there were never, ever ANY EC29s or EC36s made in the US - they ALL came out of Japan (this is straight from Washburn)...

People have been trying to sell these things of late for what - inho - is really stoopid money. They are not "custom shop quality" guitars - they're run of the mill Japanese production instruments that would probably be in about the same league as a Jackson SL3 or an Ibanez RG5xx if they had better hardware (thier trems are really garbage!). Add the fact that the additional frets are barely usable for most, and my advice would be play before you pay!

I have seen a wide variety in the price range ($350-$800).
My brother has an EC36 and had problems with the trem. so I suggested replacing it with a FR. The FR base plate was not the same spacing as the trem. post so he had to use the Washburn trem base plate and use the FR saddles. This solved most of the tremelo problems.

Re: Washburn EC29: Price?

Wow, I think got about $1200 or so for mine a couple years ago. I got it in a trade and it was dead mint and had been in the case since it was made in the late 80s or early 90s. Guess I did okay on it then...
