Exclamation That weird RG1570...

So, I was visiting some store at my city some days ago when I noticed some Ibanez prestige RG guitars. There where four of them:
- A shiny black one (I suppose it must be a RG1570z)
- A blue one with a maple neck, I don't know the model of that one but its probably a RG3XXX something.
- A Desert sun yellow colored one. Probably an RG3
- And the weird one. The pickups where the ones you'll see on a RG1570 (the one in the middle has a little cavity and you can see the cables). But the color was weird. It had this reddish wine finish, and there was no glossy acrylic finish over it. I could see all the details of the wood. To my knowledge, there is no such thing on the RG1570: all have acrylic finishes.

I've been thinking on getting myself an Ibanez prestige for some time now, and (if the vendor didn't missed anything) all four guitars are at the same price.
I kinda like the wine colored one, but the same color makes me doubt.
I also must ask:
Should I go for that one or one of the RG3XXX's?
How good/bad is the Edge Zero now? Is it still made in China?

Thanks in advance!

Re: That weird RG1570...

Possibly an RG1308?? In '96 it was a J-Custom. In '97-'98 it was a Prestige.........same guitar though.

Re: That weird RG1570...

It looks similar! Actually... it looked similar
I went to the same store today and it was GONE

I think i'll go for a RG1570z-lmr. But I'm still afraid of the Edge zero...
Is it really THAT bad? It seems that every new Prestige RG has that thing.

NO, in fact the Edge Zero is a GREAT trem........it just needs locking studs if it was made before 2011.

Re: That weird RG1570...

Everyone here complains about the Edge Zero because they're only and hate new things. They don't like it because it's stiff and doesn't flutter like an Original Edge does. But that's what makes it so stable! They simply don't go out of tune. They're every bit as good as an Original Edge.

They put that EXACT same trem on $5000 J.Customs. No company would put a crappy bridge on a guitar that's as good as a J.Custom.

Trust the bridge!

What you may be confusing it for is the Edge Zero II which is put on Indonesian guitars. It's a decent bridge as well but since it's put on the cheap guitars, people assume it's a cheap bridge. And they look very similar so some may confuse the REAL Edge Zero for being the cheap one. But I assure you, it's not.

Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and every major Ibanez endorsed artist seem to disagree. I think EZ is okay but there's something really telling about it if the big guys don't use it.

Re: That weird RG1570...

That's because they all use lots of fluttering and need a looser trem. Herman Li uses the EZ. And so do a vast majority of the newer players who have been added in the last 5 years or so.

It's an awesome bridge and it's an awesome guitar. There is no way around it.

Added in the last five years and who lack the gravitas to make certain demands?

Re: That weird RG1570...

Wow, how dare I say that the Edge Zero is an awesome trem, right?

I gave my opinion and I'm not changing it. I don't care what Vai and Satch do and don't use. It's an awesome bridge that stays in tune.

Here' let me give a more appropriate, Jemsite friendly answer.

"The Edge Zero sucks because it's not the Original Edge so instead of getting the RG1570ZLMR, just get a used RG570 and then refinish it to be what you want. There's no point in getting the guitar that YOU want because they already made one similar to it 15 years ago."

Better?

Re: That weird RG1570...

Actually my opinion isn't really slanted that way completely. Some days I think Edge Pro is the best trem Ibanez has made; other days Original Edge. And I lean more Edge Pro. EZ is good but IMO it's 4th on my list.
I will give EZ one thing; it does seem to stay in tune better. It just feels different is all. And feel is a quality people look for. Vai doesn't seem too against using new or different things; true temperment frets being a good example.
It's just a little strange that your top top endorsed artists don't use EZ. IMO it doesn't look good. Maybe it's a cost thing; I don't know. I just don't see why EZ is preferable as a standard trem to slap in new guitars when the old one is more widely accepted, simple, and has a decent history behind it.

Re: That weird RG1570...

So...
It stays in tune better than the other ibanez trems? That sounds good to me!
See, I have never used a tremolo before. My first guitar (a crappy package GIO strat) had one, but i knew it sucked so I never tried to use it. When I sold that guitar I was on the look for a string thru one. I ended with a Parker PM20 (great guitar for the price, but the electronics are a bit messy).
Since I don't have any experience using any kind of trem, I think I won't have problems with the EZ.
