Weird string sound on 2 of my Ibanez guitar

On 2 of my Ibanez guitar, I've got a weird sound on some string. It sound like 2 note are being played in a single string.

On my Ibanez RG270DX, the string G are weird and changing the string will not solve the problem. The weird sound is amplified with Evolution pickup. Instead of a clean, steady and single note, the string G sound seam to oscillate whenever I pick it open or played in ay fret.

On my Ibanez RG7420, tis is the string High E (smallest string). Same oscillation on sound. Changing string will not solve the problem.

Where this oscillating sound come ? Probably from the saddle ?

Did you recently have work done on these guitars? Like new pick ups installed, set up done etc. Have you tried adjusting the action on that string to see if it stops?

Does it do it when amped and/or unplugged?

Cheers

Re: Weird string sound on 2 of my Ibanez guitar

On my Ibanez RG270DX, I have change pickup for Evolution pickup; but the weird sound was already present before.

On my Ibanez RG7420, I've just buy this guitar this week, and the previous owner change pickup itself.

I've not adjust action as the sound is present on a open string, it not coming from a fret.

The sound is less present on clean channel of my amp, and being worse with gain/saturation.

Is it a buzzing sound? If not, it could be that the nut requires a shim.

Re: Weird string sound on 2 of my Ibanez guitar

the most overlooked solution to this problem is this...pickups are magnetic and they pull against your strings...try lowering the pickups in both guitars a bit and see if that stops it...if not you'll have to look at the bridge (worn knife edges, split locking blocks etc) and the nut...make sure everything is tight...try these simple things before having to take it somewhere and have the frets looked at...d.m.

You may want to try muffling the trem springs as well, I've had that problem before where certain notes make them vibrate (quite loudly).

i would back the pickups off and muffle the springs.check the locking nut screws. they get loose and sometimes come from the factory that way.

This sounds like a problem I ran into - is it a very rapid oscillation, almost like a rotary effect? If it is, then the pickups are probably too close to the string - like diablomozart said, lower the pickup or raise the string. If the sound is present on both pickups, move the string. Otherwise, just move the affected pickup.
