Weirdest guitar issue ever

Okay guys. My jcustom RG8420ZE has been pulling off something really strange lately. first I thought I was just imagening things but some further test proved that something strange is going on.

The guitar has the EMG 81/85 active pickups and the Edge Zero trem.

Every now and then when I pick it up and start to play, I notice that it somehow creates an electrical network with my fingers. It doesn't happen everytime but often enough to be really annoying.

When I place my lefthand finger on two or more strings simultaneously, I feel strong tinglin sensation on my left hand, just like electricity running trough it. If i keep my hand lighlty on the strings like playing harmonics and place my right hand on the trem, it somehow breaks the circuit and the sensation dissapears. As soon as I lift the right hand the tingling returns.

I've never even heard of this kind of problem, anyone care to guess what the hell is going on?

Re: Weirdest guitar issue ever

Are these stock pickups or were they after market?

EMG pickups are not supposed to be grounded or have a ground wire.

Usually the wire that runs from the spring claw to the control cavity is removed upon installation.

If it is still connected you should probably remove it.

Totaly stock, I haven't made any modifications to the guitar except changin the strings a couple of times and tuning it down a full step.

I don't know much but I know that you're not supposed to actually feel electricity when you're playing electric guitar.

I wouldn't play it anymore until a competent and knowledgeable professional had advised me, sorted it out, whatever.

Peace

Mike

Re: Weirdest guitar issue ever

Have you tried swapping cables and amps? Plugging into a different circuit in the place you play at?

What type of amp is this?

Re: Weirdest guitar issue ever

been experiencing this with a passive pickup-equipped guitar as well, but only when I'm plugged in to a tube amp.

My amp is Peavey Vypyr 75w.The problem only happens when I'm plugged in. Thefe is an circuit breaker in the plugin so the guitar doesn't use the battery unless it's plugged in.

That's why active pickups use a stero out put jack. The stero jack's third contact acts as the switch. You'll also see this on effects that don't have a footswitch or another switch. Anyway, it seems to be an amp problem, not guitar.

That was actually mind opening. The problem only started shortly after I bought the Vypyr. I just never thought it could have something to do with the amp. I decided to try out something and here's what I noticed. I had a go with my old peavy 112 studio pro amp and the Vypyr. Out of twenty one minute sessions, the vypyr brought the tingling up four times, the old studio pro zero times.

I'm still completely at a loss with this. So yeah, it might be the amp but still, what the f**k
