Went to try a really odd but killer axe today... - from Yama

I went to the local Yamaha store, and I saw, hanging in the glass case, a black axe, kinda shaped like an Ibanez AX series. This was the Yamaha Frank Gambale Signature series.

http://www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi...gSGS00004AESFG

It had a painted neck, which was the only bit I didn't like. The fretboard was Ebony, and it had 2 Seymour Duncan Hot Rails and 1 JB for the humbucker. Locking tuners, Flat fretboard radius, Coil Tap switching, and the Fretwave tuning system. Mahogany body, flushed profile (read: *******
low action), and nice access to the 22nd fret. Wilkinson trem.

Now, this is SUPPOSED to be a Jazz guitar.

But IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!! Very tight, articulated sound. Great tone, and amazing playability. The neck is a bit wide, for a 6 string, but I'm used to a 7 string, so I liked it from the start. It's EXTREMELY comfortable to hold against your body, and plays like a dream!

If you have a chance to do so, CHECK IT OUT!!!!!!

Ok. The price tag. It's about $3,700++ in SGD, which makes it about $2k USD. Believe me. It's worth every single cent... Damn! Can't seem to get it out of my mind now... I'd love to own this baby... Just wish there was a 24 fret 7 string version...

Anyone wanna buy my JPM90th??? heh...

hmm..haven't played one yet. *On a similar note though, I played a Ty Tabor model at Mars the other day and couldn't stand it. *The neck was terribly thick compared to my favorite pointy models. *The sound was decent but I could get used to the clunky neck strange body

Yeah... I hated the RGXTT. That's why I was so amazed by this baby...

That is one hot looking guitar ! If only the price tag wasn't so crazy. : )

Another artist jumping ship after so long ? I wonder if the Big two are looking elsewhere also (Vai and Satriani).

Do the prices remain the same on models that artists "Used to use" ? Like Petrucci, Eddie Van Halen etc or do they go up/down ?

Tony

i dunno about all of em..

Prices on Petrucci's old Ibanez line are relatively stable.

EVH EB/MM's are definately more expensive than the new ones though.

Don't worry, I'm sure Vai and Satch will be with Ibanez 'till the end. *Evo & the gang, and Chromeboy are big parts of Vai & Satch's music/image. *Honestly, could you imagine Vai with a Les Paul? *Joe S. with a Jackson? **shudder* *It just wouldn't be the same

Actually, I COULD see these guys with Jacksons. *And it's not like Gambale went to Gibson; Yamaha makes some FINE guitars.

You honestly think Vai or Satch would give up their Ibanezes? *C'mon!! *EVO and FLO would never leave Vai's hands!

Actually, after playing it, I feel that the price tag is quite well deserved. It really is a very well designed axe... Just don't like the pickups too much. It's rear mounted. Would DiMarzios fit in there?
