what to buy...s370 or rg470 - please i need help

im going to buy a new guitar and my money allows me to buy a model s370 or a model rg470. Me particulary likes the s line, but its made in korea while the rg is made in japan.Im not an expert but i know that the construction country is important. Please give me your opinions and personal experiences whit both guitars, and tell me another guitar in the same prize to buy(ive watched jacksons but looks me worst than ibanez).I ll be gratefully to know what used guitars can i buy in this prize(around 750 euros).thx very much. P.D.:this is my first time in jemsite and...i like it!

Our esteemed VIP Kevan has said that he's happy that he can set up a lower series RG to play as well as a J-Custom (or something like that) So there's no reason you wouldn't be happy with and RG470 or even an S370. Out of those 2 I'd go for the RG470.

But, like most folks here I'm going to advise against buying a new guitar in favour of a pre-owned RG550/570 or if you can get one and prefer the body shape an S540 but these tend to be slightly more expensive. I think the step up in hardware and quality is really worth the trade off against slight damage and it should be relatively easy to find a used RG550 or RG570. As an additional bonus, these used RG500 series guitars often have the bridge pickup swapped out for a "name" unit (eg a DiMarzio) which makes them sound even better.

Keep your eyes peeled for a used S540. *For the $400 you'd spend on a 370, you can get a nice used 540 if you're patient.

Unfortunately we're talking Euros not Dollars here So finding an S540 for as little $400 (450 Euro) *is going to prove difficult in Europe. Shipping one from the States at $400 would take Shyboy right up to if not over his budget

OK, first a couple of questions that will allow us to help you a bit more:

1)What country do you live in? Some of us can tell you lots about the used/new guitar market in the UK, best places to buy, good deals, general prices etc but know nothing about portugal or vice versa for instance.

2)What do you want the guitar for? Style of music etc.

3)What do you want in this guitar, how much (ab)use do you give the trem? How important are pickups? How important are looks?

Finding a used RG5xx or S5xx is your goal, they may be a bit beat up, but as long as the neck is OK you'll be fine. Finding one second hand for 750 shouldn't be too bad to be honest. That's roughly about half of what the s540 cost me several years ago. And the step up in hardware is definetly worth it, as is construction. And if the finish is damaged, strip it and refinish. Also, you won't lose money selling it on. Besides, if the neck is gorgeous and it plays, then who cares what it looks like (well, almost!)

If you want to import one from the US, it'll probably work out at about the same price as second hand here, maybe cheaper if you can lie on the "how much is it worth" form.

If you have your heart set on a brand nerw spanking guitar (and they are nice) then try them both out, you're bound to fall for one of them.

However: A lopro edge is nicer. Really, this is not just some "i've got this trem and you haven't" superiority hype.

Also, I do like buying second hand. It's how I got my UV's, and they both turned out OK.

But personally I'd hunt out one second hand and give it a good loving home

thank all of you for your help. I live in spain. My style guitar is heavy metal, hard rock, and solos song(satriani,vai,gilbert,timmons...). im thinking in the posibility of buy an used one after see your post; i have decide by the rg line, and i would wait some weeks moore and increase my money up to 900 euros. In this money range what guitars could i look for in used market?,forgotting the s 370 and rg470 i would like to get the best guitar posible although it was an used one. i love to have a good look in my guitar, and of course the best possible components,...but...money rules. Thanks very much to jono, 7 strings, jason, and all of you that replied me; i feel this is like a big family!

Out of those two I'd go with the RG470. If you buy a new one it will set you back about 750. Well, if you lived in Finland that is...

The RG505 has got a great playability and looks good. The edge tremolo works spledid. The one I tried had it's pickups changed from the Ibanez originals to a Tone Zone and a Breed. Combined with a POD it sounded amazing!

You could get a used JEM for that kind of cash.

Here is a couple of JEMs that has been sold on eBay:

JEM777DY - 790
JEM777DY - 640
JEM777SK - 690
JEM777SK - 540
JEM777VBK - 750
JEM777VBK - 630

Good luck to you! And welcome to the Jemsite family!

EDIT
I mixed up the RG470 with the RG505. I apologize...

You mean the TRS right? I've never seen a 470 with an Edge, unless it's been retrofitted.

My bad. I mixed up two different guitars. The guitar I am talking about is the RG505RW. Not the RG470... *I apologize...
