what do you use your 7th STRING for?

i mean, except for riffs, scales and arps extents?
i'm really looking for someone who has a real original usage of the instrument... and that makes me wonder if i really need it in my band. sure i love the idea of having this extra low B or A, but still i wonder if it would really be usefull...

What I will use it for when I get one:

Just adding that little bit of extra range to the music. Whether it's in clean tone, distorted heavy riffs, lead stuff, etc. Whatever I want to. You have to be innovative on a 6-string before you can be innovative on a 7-string. Don't think of the 7-string as a whole new instrument, or something amazing that will save your music. It's just the same as a 6-string with a few more notes. There's nothing you can do with it that you can't do on a 6-string other than play a few lower notes, make bigger chords, etc.

I use mine for those extra-low notes that go, "BLONNNNGGG!"

I use it sometimes to make jazzy lines, of create sweet arpeggios with some sort of a "walking" bass line, they sound so nice! (I tune to A a lot, it's more easy to come up with ideas)

sure i do agree on that, and never had any problems switching, just that i wonder if this low string would help me much, or open new doors to me...

You can do what Paul Gilbert does.....tune the low 3 strings in octaves for cool arpeggio runs

i really think paul found an innovative use for the 7. check 'let the computer decide' from alligator farm.

I got a 7 string first of all because my 6 string couldn't handle my tunings. And I like the 7th string cause I can have my guitar drop A and have a normal tuned 6 string on it

Chugga-chugga riffs, extended scalar runs without shifting positions, new chord ideas - basically the same thing I use all other six strings for...

I play chord melody jazz and Brazillian as a solo. The 7 string basically allows me to be my own bass player.
