What Ibanez 7 string(s) did Petrucci use before switching to Musicman guitars? In his Ibanez days, I've only seen pictures of him using his JPM 6 models and have only seen him live on stage during his current MM days.

I think he used a UV7BK, but I'm not 100% sure.

john used a uv7bk to record Awake. For the tour ( saw them oct 21 1994, I remember it well because it was my 18th bday) john used a custom shop ibanez 7 string in a white/black picasso graphic. When I saw them almost 2 years later on the change of seasons tour, john had another ibanez 7 string in his P2 color scheme. Those are the only 2 i have ever seen. Perhaps there could be more.

JP used several custom Ibanez JPM7's. They were sold on evilbay with the rest, i believe. Here's one Rich (Ibanezrules) had:

Yep. He also had some 7-string prototype one-off shown in his RD video and in the Awake recording sessions. I have no idea what the specs were on that axe and what happened to it.

Nope. I'd have to go back and watch the end of that RD video, but I'm lazy. He had some sort of 7 stringer with a redish swirl paintjob, I believe. He mentions it as a prototype that Ibanez built. Then he is shown playing it on Dream Theater's 5 Years in a Livetime video when recording in the studio. If I remember correctly, he was recording Caught in a Web off of the Awake album. I'll have to ask him what came of that axe.

While we're at it...I remember John posted once on his forum that he kept a few Ibanez's when he switched over to MM and sold all his other guitars...does he still have any Ibanez axes and does he whip 'em out once in a while?

He kept a very few. I'm not sure he even knows exactly how many since he said they were in storage and he's not much of a collector. So I doubt they're getting much playing time at all, if any.

What are some of John's other hobbies? Fishing? Bee keeping perhaps?

Very close actually. He's into bee fishing. It's an extremely difficult sport which might become a featured event at the X-Games. Think "fly fishing for a moving, buzzing target which is trying to sting you".

I always knew petrucci was more badass than I was, lol.

Can you still drink beers while bee fishing, or is there too much spillage?
