Post What kind of Les Paul is this? Or is it one?

So there is a guy in the local craigslist who has a "1970 Epiphone Les Paul, not a reissue" It says "Gibson" on the headstrock, and it looks like the trus rod cover says Les Paul, and I can't read what is underneath it from the picture. My main thing, it has a bolt-on neck. I'll try and get a link up later so y'all can see it.

Here is what I'm thinking:
1. Epiphone didn't start making the Les Paul until 1988, and when they did, it said "Epiphone" on the headstock

2. I haven't seen any Gibson Les Pauls from the 70's with a bolt on neck.

My guess is that this is a fake (off brand who put "Gibson" on the neck)

If someone can prove to me that this is a real LP, I will snatch it up in a heartbeat.

I've never seen a bolt on Gibson like that. Looks like a lawsuit, probably Chinese. At any rate, it still might be worth the asking price.

This is exactly my thinking as well. I can't "prove to you this is a real LP," but it doesn't seem legit at all. The MyLesPaul forum would be a good place to take this. In fact, I think I'll ask over there.

Peace

Can I post a link to the thread I posted on My Les Paul? As if you needed any further confirmation, all the posters over there say it's fake.

Peace

Re: What kind of Les Paul is this? Or is it one?

Not a lot of information in that thread. Lots of signs about how phony that guitar is, in addition to it supposedly being a 1970s Epiphone, and it being an Epiphone that says Gibson, and the bolt on neck, the 3 screw truss rod cover is another dead giveaway, fretboard appears to be rosewood but it has the split diamond and block inlays, the headstock is wrong...

Re: What kind of Les Paul is this? Or is it one?

the only thing that might be real about this guitar is that you might be able to touch it. But given that the ad is on craigslist and full of crap even touching after paying for it may be a stretch too....
