A rg 550 body and neck with these guts. http://line6.com/variax/ . i think it would be a winning combination a rg550 variax guitar in new neon colors like purple , orange , pink, red.

I'm not really a fan of the Variax stuff. That said, they have the best (most realistic) sounding digital drop tuning mode I've ever heard. It tracks really well, probably because it uses individual piezos for each string.
You'd need some piezo saddles for the Edge to make it work.

The Ibanez/Variax hybrid has been done. And personally, I think it's a great idea. Makes for a VERY versatile guitar. If you don't like Line 6, you won't like the Variax. If you DO like Line 6, and you're an Ibanez guy, this is the ultimate.

Re: what would you think about this ?

Nah. Not a troll thread! It's a legit project. I do like the flexibility of the Variax guitar, I just don't like the guitar itself, either in the way it feels or the way it looks. Why not combine the two for a perfect compromise? I think for a guy who plays out, and maybe plays a wide variety of material in one set, the Variax can play the role of many guitars and produce many sounds. The best Ibanez ever??? Certainly not. But a really useful instrument, you bet.

Re: what would you think about this ?

IMHO I think it would be a total disaster ....but I always love to be proved wrong with these kinds of things so I say if you like Variax and Ibanez guitars go for it!

Pics if you do it!

I think that looks fantastic. I'm a big fan of Line 6, althought they're not "there" yet, it won't be long and I love the idea of being able to do all the "essential" sounds from one guitar.

As long as the variax tracks well enough, that'd be a fantastic cover band guitar. At least it'd have everyone talking about it afterwards

To be honest, I dont think the average person listening to a cover band would have any idea whether the guitar tone was the same as the original or way off.

Re: what would you think about this ?

wouldn't do it to my 87 550, but if that helps you hit the tone better and it sounds better to you, you will play better...
