Re: What's this

It looks suspiciously what it's stated to be--an Ibanez USRG30. Worn off decals happen--they are silkscreened on, and are easily scratched off with a little effort.

Re: What's this

Note you can't see nut.

What's on back of neck? Looks like one of those pull-tight-plastic-strap-9er-5er-things

Re: What's this

They have a tension-free neck with a top-mount locknut.

Re: What's this

The extension on the heel of the neck is rather large don't you think?
At least a replacement neck IMO.

Re: What's this

Well, I don't claim to be the be all end all when it comes to late model Ibanez guitars. Now the older models are a different case, I can hold my own there pretty well. It just looks to me like the heel of the neck extends well beyond the neck pocket, add to that no logo and it makes me wonder.

And judging a guitar by pics is always hit or miss, there is something to be said for holding an instrument in your hands.

Re: What's this

No idea how the logo wears off and the flame remains. May be an aftermarket USRG30 done by Bunker Guitars which, realistically, IS an USRG30 minus the edge bridge (for a Floyd licensed) and different pups.

Re: What's this

Hopefully the next US made RG (if there is one) will rely less on gimicks and get right down to business!
No offense USRG fans!

Re: What's this

OK. I can see better now. The logo was to me a sign but comparing the back of the neck to other photos makes sense.

What is that on the back of neck? Something to do with the tension free part of the neck I would guess?

Re: What's this

If those logos were inlaid like most prestige models, I'd bet it's a replacement neck. Either way, it still looks like a tension free neck.

Good eye! There is an ANCIENT thread floating around here somewhere (like 8 years old or thereabouts) where Rich (Ibanez Rules) and Glen (the founder of this site) argued about this very point. Rich pointed out that the neck on the tension free necks didn't taper into the AANJ properly interfering with upper fret access. Glen didn't think that was such a big deal and liked the USRGs anyway, despite that flaw. It does appear that the USRG necks were designed for something other than an AANJ, but they slapped them on anyway without bothering to sand/shave away the extra wood.

That's my historical anecdote for the day.
