Yup. I'd go for the RG570 as well. I prefer the Edge tremolo over the tremolo's on both older and new JEM555's. The nice thing about a RG570 is that you've got other color options than just black and white

And cheaper!!!
I can get a 570 for barely 250-300 $
Plus another 100-150s for the evos...

The 550 is front routed and therefore has a scratchplate. the 570 is rear routed, and therefore does not.

I'm not 100% sure, but didn't the RG550s have a maple board instead of rosewood?

I am not a big fan of scratchplates, so I would go for the RG570.

The new RG1550 has a maple board but the old RG550's had rosewood (well my mates 550ex did, i'm not sure about all models). The new RG2550 has a rosewood board but it is of course more expensive because it has "better" pickups in it.
I just got a new RG1570 and, apart from the intonation on the bottom E (which i'm trying but failing to set right), it's a fantasic guitar. I'd go for the RG if I were you, but then in a personal thing and the only way you'll deside which is better is to try them both out. Just remember that they'll both sound pretty much the same if you put Evo's in the RG coz both guitars would have the same pickups in a basswood body, so it's what you like the look and feel of which are the deciding factors.
I don't know the differance but the RG1570 has the edge pro and the JEM555 has an edge pro II. All the other new JEMs have the edge pro as well so i'm assuming the edge pro is better in some way.

the 1570 or 1550 are prestige guitars, they have an edge pro trem, while the other isnt a prestige, i'd go for the rg and forget about the small tree of life the momkey grip and the lion claw routing. + the rg is cheaper!

I think most of the pre AANJ 550's had maple boards on Wizard necks. Every one I've seen has been maple (but I can't say I've seen a 550ex).

As has been said, the trem on the 570 is better, no pickguard on the 570 either. The neck and pickups are the main differences though. You need to decide which you like better. I had my 555 modded to look more like a 7V instead with a full vine inlayed. that is just aesthetics though and not as crucial as the trem or Pups.

let us know what you do !

personally, I'd take a hard look at the 555 before making my mind up. the neck profile is far more important than what trem, pickups and inlays are used. last time I checked, the wizard neck felt very dead to me (felt pretty much like your average made-in-a-foreign-country-for-people-who-just-want-the-thinnest-neck guitar).

I don't know how much a 555 costs, but I'm thinking you could get a 77fp or 777sk or something slightly cheaper.

Ummm... no.

77fp=guitar people want and pay for.
777sk= guitar people want and pay for.
555 = economy model guitar as it was, marked as half-off because it is not moving. Defintely the RG over the 555 since you get the nicer bridge and the matching inlay all the way up the neck, even though it's dots. Much cleaner looking guitar. The 555 kinda looks "unfinished"...lol
