what's with the J-custom and prestigue pickups configuration

OK, so none of the prestigues come with good pickups in them and,

all the J-customs come with the tone zone/air nortion combo (which i don't perfer)

couldn't they swich it up a bit?
what are your thoughts and comments about this? this is why i want a JEM. the evolutions are my favorite pickups but i don't think a jem is worth 2K. I don't wanna change the pups in a j-custom either. not after payin' 2K.

This matter is very subjective. Some may like V7 and V8. Others find DiMarzio/IBZ very good. Others may prefer Tone Zone and air Norton. Its a matter of preference.

Re: what's with the J-custom and prestigue pickups configuration

I change pickups in almost every guitar I buy because I want very specific things sound wise. I don't see what the big deal is. If you don't like the TZ/AN combo, take them out, sell them and get different pups.

As others have said, it's personal preference so there's no pleasing everyone. The fact is the TZ/AN combo is very popular so it's the pup combo that will please a majority of the people.

There is nothing 'not good' about the Prestige pups or the AN/TZ combo. It's just that they aren't to YOUR liking. They can't suit everybody all the time. I get great sounds out of both, if I didn't like 'em I'd change 'em.

Re: what's with the J-custom and prestigue pickups configuration

As stated in a topic that started in august, ALL Dimarzio/Ibz pups are made in the US where every other Dimarzio pick-up is made. They are simply made to Ibanez specifications, and there are 8 separate models chosen depending on the guitar. You saying all the Dimarzio/Ibz's are bad are just like people saying Tone Zone's and Evo's are bad - they're just not what you prefer.

I can't speak for the V7/V8 pups however.

I think he was trying to say that there is not enough variation. I agree.

I personally really like my TZ/AN combo but I'd really like to see Ibanez putting out axes using the whole array of DiMarzio pups (at least for the JC's).

Re: what's with the J-custom and prestigue pickups configuration

It is indeed a matter of preference. Some of us don't mind the stock pickups, some of us actually like them, others hate them.

My summary: who cares? If you don't like 'em, go jump on the Tone Zone bandwagon!

Well, Ibanez IS using EMG's and Duncan's again. It's a step in the right direction.

For some, yes! Others (like me) hate EMG's.

I think that's where many fail to notice that there are 8 different models of the Dimarzio IBZ, so there is probably more variety than many think

When it comes to pickups, personally I dont really care too much what comes in a guitar since most lilkely I will end up changing them anyway.

Re: what's with the J-custom and prestigue pickups configuration

I've never changed pups. I accept the guitar as is and think of it's tone as it's own individual voice and love it for that. I have something like 11 guitars and if they al sounded the same what would be the point? I love that they all sound different. Still they don't sound that much different from each other, most of my tone comes from my fingers.

Still I have to agree with you in some respects, I think Ibanez should offer more options per model, pups, fretboards, paint, etc. to let a musician talyor their axe to their specs. That will never happen of course. It's too bad too.
