I don't really get your point, do you mean the 5-series that became 15-series or the new bridges that were introduced in 2003?

I just got back from test-driving an RG2620 and was thouroughly underwhelmed. The nut was so low that the high E string was fretting out on the first fret - fixable but not something you expect to see on a $2600 guitar. And the store should have at least replaced the rusted strings, which I'm sure didn't help playability.

And every 03 Prestige neck I've seen has been made up of several more pieces of wood than a non-prestige one - when you look at the back of the headstock it's got these little triangles in a different colour and grain pattern where the pointy bits are. So it seems they're putting more physical work into the necks, but throwing them together out of whatever offcuts they've got sitting around.

Or maybe they've just shipped the b-grade necks to Australia where we should be glad to get anything off the distributor here at all. One of the big chains here only got their 2003 Prestige lines in October and aren't expecting any 2004 models to arrive until that time in 04.

It's been widely discussed here that regardless of $500 or $3400 price, the MIJ ibanez axes are usually devoid of optimum setup... it matters not the price or label (j-custom, prestige, etc).

For better or worse, the store/dealer is responsible for setup... glen

I agree with that, glen, the store should do everything it can to make those guitars function as flawlessly as they can so they will walk out the door sooner. But I think something like adequate nut shimming should be taken care of at the factory, because I don't trust this store to do it! *LOL* Oh also, the guitar department manager didn't know about the ZR trem despite having four in stock.

They also had a 3120 which played perfectly. Odd.

I've never encountered a low nut from the factory. In fact, high to extremely high nuts are the norm.

The nut was so low on this one it was like having a zero fret *LOL*

Oh well, the colour was ugly anyway so I won't be buying it, two-minute shim job or not.

The nut is supposed to be 0 fret

[but I know you meant the first fret]

Hehe, remember when Nigel Tufnel got that Music Man guitar with the four humbuckers and the speed gagues? He said that underneath the solid paint job was the most gorgeous 10-grade flame maple top he'd ever seen. *LOL*
