Question whos good with jacksons? trem question.

ok so on the dk2m's theres this JT580 LP trem. is it a direct drop in with an OFR?

and i dont actually want the OFR but im going to do something different. if you can put an OFR where an ibanez edge III goes can you put an edge III where an OFR goes? because i hate the OFR, its ugly and uncomfortable and the world of ibanez is starting to realize that the edge III isnt so bad.

so long story short: can i fit an edge III where a JT580 LP trem in a jackson dk2m goes? thanks people!!!

I don't honestly know, but you can improve a jt580 by swapping the baseplate.

I can't be of much help, but I was wondering what it is about the original trem that you don't like? or what about the Edge 3 that would improve over the original?

Also, how do you like the pickups? Did you end up changing them out?

i dont have it yet so i wouldnt know haha. but honestly, i just dont like how the trem looks and feels. its a good trem but i think the edge III looks and feels better and if i set it right ill never have any problems so to me it seems like a good idea

Fair enough. Let us know how it works out (pics too). I'm curious about this since I have this guitar.

Re: whos good with jacksons? trem question.

I know you can just drop on OFR in place of a JT500 because I've done it. The thingies that the fine tuners press down on at the back of the baseplate - whatever they're called - come out a tiny bit further than the trem cavity, that's the only thing. I just hacked away at the cavity a bit, because my Jackson is was all dinged and scratched anyway.. if you have a pristine instrument and want it kept that way, there might be a more elegant solution.

I've no idea if the JT580 differs at all in its routing template.. the only difference I'm aware of is the angled baseplate.

BTW, so long as you're not planning on getting the money back in resale, putting a genuine floyd in is a great move. Those lic floyds are the only thing holding a lot of MIJ jacksons back. They tend to wear out with use.. mine did anyway.. and not hold tune anymore. And the difference in tone with the upgrade is like a whole new guitar..

Re: whos good with jacksons? trem question.

thats true. and this is japanese, in goodcondiion. but its from a store that sells everything cheap (not a pawn shop, a real guitar store!!!!) and its over 10 years old so its about $450 so im not worried about routing the cavity. but sadly i doubt im buying this guitar so this thread is almost useless to me now. i hope it helps someone else....

Re: whos good with jacksons? trem question.

I like the JT 580LP better than the Edge III so I would consider it a downgrade and a waste of time and resources. Now and OFR Schaller floyd or gotoh floyd and we are talking or and Ibanez Edge pro edge lo-pro or original edge. Good luck but make sure your upgrade is a real upgrade??

This may be a little late, but I found this site a while back. Big help when I needed it for my Charvel (Jackson made):

http://audiozone.dk/index-filer/Trem...ject.htm#jt580

Great help. Anything you want to know about Jackson tremolos. I believe it say you can do the OFR with this style of trem.

Re: whos good with jacksons? trem question.

really useful, thanks IBNZ. and to me it is an upgrade. ive played pleanty of edge III's and abused the s**t out of em with no problems when i set them right. i like the trem stability. not to mention i think its nicer (and more modern) looking and more comfortable so to me its a huge upgrade. id put an edge pro or something more expensive in it but i really dont feel like sinking more money into it (if i even get it at all)
