Why no J-Customs?

I was wondering why the J-Custom line isn't more widely available in the U.S. through most Ibanez retailers (guitar center etc). I know we have the prestige line here (just picked up a RG2550) but there are no J-Custom type Prestiges with nice maple tops. I'm extremely impressed with my Prestige and I would assume many people would buy them if they were available.

Re: Why no J-Customs?

They are only meant for the Japanese market. If you live outside of Japan, you have to import it. So the problem isn't them not being more widely available in the U.S., it's them not being available in the U.S. period.

I understand they are only meant for the Japanese Market. To clarify, what I'm asking is why these amazing guitars are only available in Japan and not produced for the US market as well?

Re: Why no J-Customs?

The short answer is that they wouldn't sell in large enough numbers to support being here.

From a marketing stand point that would make sense. If thats true Im just surprised because people spend big buck on guitars like Suhr, PRS, Jackson and other high end guitars and the J-Customs could def give them a run for their money

Re: Why no J-Customs?

We had USA customs a few times. Apparently, we failed and do not deserve J Customs.

Re: Why no J-Customs?

hahahaha.... I was talking to the owner of a music store - I won't say which store or where it is - and he said that, when they were doing the USA Custom (or whatever they were called), the actual President of Ibanez came to the store, grabbed one off the shelf, looked at it, called it a piece of junk, took the guitar with him and shortly after that, they were discontinued in the states.

Absolute true story.

Judging by the pricing on the picture that Rich posted up......they are a lovely $$$ as well. Yikes! Beautiful samples though, no question.

Re: Why no J-Customs?

We all know that J Customs are made by Samurai's in rice paper huts at the foot of Mt. Fuji. We gaijins hardly deserve these ultimate sonic weapons. I say, let it remain so

I owned a '96 USRG30. I'd actually believe this story after owning that guitar.

From that picture above, the GA...wow. Makes me want to finally own an Edge Zero
