Why overall ESP is my pick for best guitar company.

They really do have something for everyone. Their standard line is really well rounded. They offer neck through, set necks, bolt ons, Floyd's, string through body non-trems, seven strings etc.

Their custom shop is as good as it gets. QC on everything is outstanding. Their Japanese artist line are the most unique signature guitars out there, not just a few tweeks on existing models.

They hold their value well.

Drawbacks. ESP USA is a totally independent company with no direct tie to ESP Japan. USA selection of standards isn't what it is in Japan, Australia etc. The cases they come with are pretty cheap, no where near on par with Ibanez Prestige cases.

But over all yeah, ESP is the king dog. IMHO

ESP (Japanese made), are built solid as a rock, no question about it.
for the guy that ever owned : '80 Mirage custom, Eclipse, Vintage Plus, and played friend's MII DX and Kirk Hammet KH2 neckthru.... I still love any of my 500 bucks RG better.
it's only a matter of taste.

I love my RG's. My main guitars will always be MIJ RG's. ESP just offers more than Ibanez and they always will. At the end of the day Ibanez builds a great spec'd OEM'd guitar.

it's like love and hate situation with Ibanez nowdays.
I hate the current line they offered, so boring. even their J custom is boring.
on the other hand, I love they stop making cool guitars, makes my financial stays safe...

for me, 2002 is the year when Ibanez stop making cool guitars.

I like some of the Prestige's/JS/JEM but it would be great if they offered more.

Re: Why overall ESP is my pick for best guitar company.

If you look at ESP, they are no different.
Their coolest axe is MII ( IMHO), only offered in 2 models : DX and custom.
DX is bolt on with selection of maple neck or rosewood, finish option is limited : black, maybe red or blue, and the custom is neckthru with ebony and only available in black..
I've been waiting for their DX version with flame maple top or fancy inlays.. but never happened.
the only way to get those, is ordering to the custom shop.
It's the only thing that ESP can offer better than ibanez...... the custom shop!

2 MII models???
So what about the Urban Camo neck through with an ebony board??
The MII CTM STD neck through with ebony again?
The maple boards?
The models with Seymours or EMGs??
All of the shelf standards, the new zebra finish?
White ones with maple and neck through?
The Sig series based on the MII???

let's narrow the search.
if you look at the japanese website : clik on ESP M-II, what do you get ?
DX and custom.
DX with maple or rosewood, and 2 option of finish : black and deep red.
Custom : one model only, EMG , ebony and black.
That's what I'm talking about.

now, try to look at Ibanez web site : look at RG line : how many do you count in there?

See my point?

I know the urban camo M II, saw one before, maybe a spot production or else, not sure.
If we are talking about spot production Ibanez... plenty of it.
let's put aside signature series. I know hammet, henamann, and some japanese artist model. it's for different game.

Re: Why overall ESP is my pick for best guitar company.

been there mate, besides the zebra, other looks normal production line.
our local distributor had the urban camo somewhere in 2005-6, only 1 unit and takes forever for them to sell it...
now I'm still seeing the emppu varoinen sign hanging in their wall for like...2 years?

the singapore distributor has the angel model.... wonder how to play that damn thing...

I agree!
I've owned a late 80s Mirage Deluxe and a few M-IIs.

Needless to say--all I own are various Ibanez models now.
