why is the rg3550mz not popular?

Just curious. I don't see a lot of reviews or videos of it. Are most ibanezheads into other prestige models or.... jems?

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

My own view would be that it has the wrong trem and no-one bothered to inform Ibanez that a guitar at that price point really should have a matching headstock

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

Arguably too expensive. I also think Ibanez introduced a new trem at exactly the wrong time; when the economy took and massive $#&# and the yen jumped 25% versus the dollar. Whether or not Edge Zero is truly a good trem, who is going to shell out $1,500 to take the risk? Put original edge, LoPro Edge or even Edge Pro on this guitar and I bet it would move a lot better.
This, of course, is my unqualified opinion.

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

I feel with the prestige range, beyond the 1550 and 1570, the solid colour RGs don't really get a lot better. Whack a nice set of pickups in there and you've got yourself a killer - same woods, you can get the zero bridge....

It's just not got any bells and whistles to justify the up-charge over a 2550 or even 1550.

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

I don't really like the pickguard and color combinations for the RG3550mz. I much prefer the RG3570 and it's lazer blue color with yellow knobs and pickups! But still I don't like the fact that most of the Prestige Ibbies have just some plain body finish... I'm a sucker for flamed or quilted maple tops and then you're talking about top of the range prestige models nearing the 2k eur mark

Overall it's kinda ugly, but some might think it's an upgraded RG350M minus the matching headstock

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

On this forum, you're going to find a bias against the Edge Zero and a corresponding favoritism for the original Edge and Lo Pro.

Also, there is a *very* slight preference for older Ibanez RGs over new ones. Mostly I find that it's more based around the same Edge vs. Edge Zero argument, but I still sense a bit of a preference independent of trem unit. It's just a matter of preference, but one you can understand if you're able to compare them.

If you mean elsewhere on the web, it's because Ibanez guitars are a niche. They're often lumped into the "pointy hair metal shred" category don't get the respect they deserve.

I used to hate the Zero, now I've tried one without the ZPS, I actually rather like it.

It's more a value issue for me.

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

For me it's a matter of economics. Having played both the 1550m and the 3550 I can't personally justify the price difference. For what it's worth, I went with the 1550m as I felt it represented a MUCH better value, especially at what I paid used for it. As for the upgraded pickups in the 3550, I personally have never like the sound of the Tonezone and would have to replace that anyways. I actually like the V8 sound (for what I play) BETTER than the Tonezone in this particular case, but someday I may throw an Evo2 into the bridge slot on my 1550m. As for the Edge Zero, aside from playing with one briefly on the 3550 I do not have enough information to provide an informed answer.

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

I'm definitely feeling the bias regarding edge zero terms. the question is, for all you zero haters - do you think its bad because you played one and hated it? Or is it because its not a free floating trem and not the same setup that Ibanez has used since forever?

P.s. just thought I'd point out that if you get it in Galaxy Black, technically the headstock matches. And for those who think it's ugly, how ate blue and gold setups or rainbow contrast schemes aesthetic?

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

Technically a black headstock does not match a galaxy black body.

The EZ is as free floating as pulling the ZPS bar out. It's also a good functional well performing trem with the ZPS bar out, that looks like crap compared to any other Edge series. Past that there are plenty little things to gripe about.

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

A Galaxy Black Headstock would look rather silly, amiright? So, what are you supposed to do other than make it a flat color? The only think I personally think they should have done, is make the Galaxy White with a white headstock and black tuners. Perhaps the pick guard shouldn't be metallic either.

For the people saying it's an upgraded 350M. I don't see where you are coming from. The fretwork is nowhere even comparable. I've never ever heard anyone compare a 350 to a jem and I have heard plenty of people say that their 3550mz is in the same playing field as a quality jem guitar.

Re: why is the rg3550mz not popular?

Noyou'rewrong. A Galaxy Black headstock would look no more silly than a CA headstock on a JS1200. Matching is matching. If it looked silly on the head it would look silly on the body.

Considering the matter is one of choice, and thus completely subjective -There's no right or wrong about it.
