Winner!

heh, if I get over 80% in my HSC parents agreed to buy me a guitar to the value of $1000 (aus)

Was thinking of getting a RG (the one with the orangy maple top, 2 humbuckers), I played one recently and really enjoyed it (great action, pickups were average but it felt really comfy to play).

Im wondering if anybody here would recommend another guitar in that price bracket worth getting?

I have a JS100 atm with dimarzios. Would it be better to sell it and use the grand and the money from the JS to get a better guitar?

Re: Winner!

for 1k you prolly wouldnt get a great RG

maybe you should look at the PRS SE series, for the price they cannot be beat by guitars double their price.

Just my 2c

Re: Winner!

Where you getting your guitar's Jimmy?, with roughly $700 american and $1000 australian (you did mean australian didn't you?) you can get a great new and even better used guitar. As for new ones 1550's, and 1570's are in your range and are the best bang for the buck brand new. As for used you can get a lot better guitar's for that much, just look around where you live at pawn shops, or here in the classified's section. I wouldn't set your heart on brand new though, it's like buying a new, car once you leave the lot it loses 5k in resale value. Of course not literally 5k in a guitar situation, but you get my meaning. You'll never get back what you paid for a new guitar, but you'd prolly get back what you payed for a used one if you don't damage it and you'll get a lot higher end guitar. I used to buy everything new, then my parent's stopped paying for all my guitar stuff and I woke up and realised I could've gotten much nicer gear if it were used.

Re: Winner!

More like $775, for which you could get a GREAT rg.

You should try looking for second hand RG3120s, amazing objects. Beautiful. Very good guitars indeed.

I've played a Santana SE and it was fukin horrible. Played a Tremonti SE, was incredibly average, but very light (only major + tbh).

Re: Winner!

kinda depends on whether you're talking new or used. not everyone is willing to chance the used market (especially gift-buying parents).

sadly, A$1000 doesn't stretch too far on a new ibanez. you'd get yourself into a new rg320 for about that. it's with some embarassment that i recall paying circa A$1400 for a new rgt42fmdr.

Re: Winner!

Check the ESP LTD series too. They have some good stuff there at a good price.

thanks for backing me up there aussie buddy

Ibanez`s in australia are expensive.

Ill list some guitars id think of

Jackson PS4
Fender Strat MIM
RG 350dx
PRS SE
Epiphone LesPaul / SG

ID seriously consider the PRS, then the strat, then the Les Paul. Then maybe the RG.

The RG350 jsut doesnt have the quality of its more expensive brothers. sorry, just my opinion. ive played a few, and own more than i can count on one hand.

I see where your coming from on the new part, but in terms of used guitar's that kinda money can get you an awesome used guitar.

from that list, i've owned a MIM Strat, Epi LP Custom and RG320FM.

the only one i kept was the strat. but that's also because the 320 was entirely redundant in my collection.
