Would this be considered a "rare" guitar?

http://www.coolguitars.ca/images/teisco.jpg

saw it at a local store, and thought it was pretty cool looking. It's a "reissue though", so does that mean there's thousands of them?

It;s going for only 595. is that a good deal?

here's some specs on it
http://www.coolguitars.ca/kgs_inv_detail.asp?InvID=2985

keep in mind it's a local store, so the sites not all that fancy :P

All depends on what you want in a guitar and what kind of music you play.

9th Edition Blue Book says somewhere in the range of $200.00 to $300.00.

I think it looks pretty cool.

Red face Re: Would this be considered a "rare" guitar?

I'm not feeling the love for this guitar, not my cup of tea!

It's not worth much now, and chances are it's not going to be worth much in 20 years.

If you like it and it feels comfortable, and the price is in your budget you should get it based on it being the type of player you like. If you're looking for a collector this is probably not the one...

Rare isn't the same as valuable. Teisco's probably are going to be rarer than a lot of other things.

It depends why rarity is important to you. If you want something that looks different, probably a good choice. If you think it is going to sky rocket in value, that is really unrealistic.

Re: Would this be considered a "rare" guitar?

The reason they want $500.00 is because a few years ago EVH was on the cover of some magazine with one of them.
After that picture came out, they started selling for around $1000.00. Before that picture came out, you could pick them up in pawnshops for about $100.00 dollars.

Looks like a cool guitar. I like it. It would be cool if you play in a classic rock or a rockabilly band.

I think I've got that book.

All I've heard about Teisco's. They have their followers, and are awful guitars to play. From an 80's point of view.

Re: Would this be considered a "rare" guitar?

The thing you have to remember about these Teisco Guitars is that when they first came out they were cheap (inexpensive). So a lot of people started off with these.
EVH's first guitar was a Teisco.

People dont buy them because they are good guitars, they buy them because they have some nostalgic meaning to that person.

Would I spend $595.00 on this guitar? No. But there are probably guys in the late 40's & 50's who would.

You just need to understand, that this guitar is no where near as good as other guitars you can buy with that $595.00.

Bingo. Exactly. These were student guitars, nothing more, normally played like crap and stayed in tune like crap. I know, I used to play a 60s student guitar (my dad's) when I first started, and brought back a Teisco from the dead for a bandmate, after it was thrown into a dumpster. It shoulda stayed there.
