There is nothing illegal about making exact body shapes. The courts found with the Gibson lawsuit that headstock shapes are considered trademarked, (ever heard of the Ibanez pre-lawsuit guitars?) but I suppose that we should believe your opinion over the courts and the law.
Actually if you research that case, the court did not make a ruling, the case was settled out of court.

What did happen was Gibson's lawyers mishandled the case. Look it up. The one case that every internet law expert cites actually set zero precedent

Re: Would you accept a non ibanez copy as an Ibanez?

A rather famous "Ibanez" was played by the most famous rocker of the time to endorse the company, Paul Gilbert. It was a bolt on Epiphone Coronet/Wilshire type body with different necks but sometimes an Ibanez neck (first pic). It's not as sexy as RG types so Ibanez never got off the ground with it but I would like a Coronet-like Ibanez in the line, but maybe not hot pink:

If someone is trying to fool people in to thinking it's 100& real, that's BAD!
If you're just modding a real Ibanez and some part of it is really from Ibanez, go for it!
There is no law against painting or modifying a guitar even if you're going to resell it.

Slash's AFD Les Paul wasn't made by Gibson. It had Gibson logos on it. Just sayin.
