Would you accept a non ibanez copy as an Ibanez?

I dont know how to say it, but if someone made an Ibanez, or say just a body with an Ibanez neck or a EKG custom, would you mind if they put the logo on and called it an Ibanez even if it wasnt make by the company?

No matter what, I would think of it as a custom and never an original.

I would accept anything that is decent and playable, and probably really like it, but I wouldn't put something like that into a specific category, such as an "ibanez".

I wouldn't buy a camaro and drop a corvette engine in it and call it a corvette.

that's illegal, so yes, I would mind. more importantly, so would Ibanez. Copying a guitar is alright up until you put someone else's copyrighted logo on your copy.

Oh, and the Camaro Z28 had a corvette engine in it from the factory.

If I built a good copy I'd put my own name on it.

I wouldn't care, personally. I do think it's silly, though. It'd be doing it because it's a "label" and it'd make you feel better.

Exactly. Did you call it a corvette?

As long as it's not comercial and it's personal than go right ahead. The feeling is different with the logo and not having a logo.

Right now even those Original Ibanez guitars with an original Ibanez logo on it does not feel like an ibanez guitars at all. Especially those from Indonesia and some Korean made.

Well there is a difference between swapping the body or making a full blown copy.

if the neck is original then theres really no reason to not have the logo on it, you just have a replacement body.

Re: Would you accept a non ibanez copy as an Ibanez?

Only Ibanez owns the Ibanez logo so only they can put it on *their* guitars. If someone makes a copy of an Ibanez neck and puts an Ibanez logo on it, they have broken the law. Of course, like Fender does with Warmoth, Ibanez could always license someone to make necks for them. But even in the case of Fender and Warmoth, Fender does not allow Warmoth to sell or put Fender stickers on the necks.

And I believe that it is even illegal to copy some headstock shapes as they are trademarked.

No, but you don't have to tell people it isn't.

The only similarity is the shape.

I would want to know of its origins for sure, but it wouldn't keep me from buying it if it was a good guitar and I liked it.

If it's a real Ibanez neck, then I'd leave the logo on even if the body is a fake.
