Wrist ache from Wizard neck

After testing over several weeks with different guitars I'm forced to come to the conclusion that wrists/arms just don't like the thinness of the neck on my RG2550E.

On a standard strat neck (for fatter) I'm absolutely fine, but there's just something about the profile on the RG that my hands don't like.

I'm pretty disappointed because I love the overall playability and feel of the RG . Can anyone offer some advise, or are there other comparable guitars in the Ibanez range with a slightly thicker profile neck? JS, JEM, ???

Hey DVD,

Obviously the JS neck is significantly fatter than an RG, and a bit rounder on the profile as well. Other than the JS there's not a lot out there to help you in new Ibanez guitars.

On the other hand, there are some older guitars that have a much more substantial neck and you still het the RG looks and feel. Look for anything with the "Ultra" neck. I have one on my RGT3120 and LOVE it!!! There are quite a few other models with the ultra, but I'll have to do some searching to find them.

You could also look into '86 RG's they have a 21mm/22.5mm thickness and 22-frets like most of the JS's They also have Edge trems and a top-LOKIII nut........My '86 RG410 is only one example of these guitars.

Jems have a lot of variability, but my '91 FP is absolutely great. I also really love my Voyager, which has a slightly thicker neck.

Re: Wrist ache from Wizard neck

This was opposite of my experience. When I discovered Ibanez guitars, all of my other guitars had necks that started feeling too thick.......and trying to play them again was giving me serious tendon pain. I remember waking up one morning after spending some time on my Jackson SL2H the night before, and my hand was aching! I've since sold off just about all of my "other brand" guitars to fund a hearty Ibanez collection. Just perfect necks for me, and I really can't play anything else!

Buy the Fireman.
The thickest neck Ibanez ever built.

Re: Wrist ache from Wizard neck

Isen't there also a question of fretwire?. I have had little of the same problem with the thin but wide wizard neck combined with 6100 frets that's quite low, for me it was hard to play on. On the other hand i played on superwizard neck for hours with no problem what so ever. Diffrent frets, not so wide neck. I would have said a JS would work just fine for you DVD or a superwizard(bubinga stripe)neck. Go try those necks out. As stated above the jem fp could work if you can get your hands on one.
