Re: Xiphos

just tried one briefly-unplugged, sitting down- the neck reminded me of an LP, but with 24 frets. Workmanship appeared ok, nice finish (chameleon) but it's MII, so for the kind of money they're asking for it I'd rather go MIJ (RG1527 for example)

I think these are meant to compete directly with Dean´s Dimebags ) most of which are MIC

Re: Xiphos

Semi-irrelevant comment just FYI: Xiphos is the Greek word for sword!

The extra cost is to pay the R&D department for comming up with a name that starts with "X".

Re: Xiphos

The store I teach at just got one in so I'll give it a play and let you know my thoughts. The paint job is pretty cool. I noticed that the first day I saw the guitar on the rack the day they got it. I just haven't taken the time to play it as it isn't my cup of tea for body shape.

My first impression (not having played it yet) is that they are having too much stuff being MII. Alot of people are still trying to warm up to the idea of stuff that isn't MIJ but MIK so to be dropping so many lines (especially at that price point) down to MII is a little much for me. Just MHO.

BTW- thanks for the info jazzedout

Re: Xiphos

I played one, and I thought it played and sounded pretty damn good.

For $600, I don't think it's that bad of a deal at all.

Re: Xiphos

Good. You guys are making less worried about it. On paper(specs) and from photos I like it, but if it plays or sounds poor...

As much as I hate to say this, I put down a 20th RG DY and picked up the Xiphos, and I thought it sounded and played better. I really wasn't expecting that at all. But it actually felt nice and sturdy. It looked clean, it played very well, and sounded awesome.

But I like H-H, thick neck, and big frets. I was actually quite impressed with it, and will probably pick one up. For the price, you really cannot beat it.
