The FR trem has lots of features but the metal isn't as hard as an OFR, so over time it may not hold tune as well.

But the higher Yamahas are great high quality guitars - the 1212 is VERY nice. I prefer the more strat-like Pacifica 900 series, but they're all mighty fine, IMO.

Thanx for replies..
so, do you think that 250euros for 1212a is ok price...although it's missing a trem arm..that could be a problem...i dont know where to find an arm for a off production yamaha licenced floyd rose..?

That's a good price for that guitar. You can likely get the bar from Yamaha - that trem was used on guitars way after the 1212 wasn't being made. But they'll charge a lot. You may be able to find another kind that'll work, but it'll be a kludge; they're kind of odd.

Re: Yamaha rgx1212a..ANY experiences..or with similar?

OK, I was mistaken on my trem - it's an RM-ProII (not an FR). If the trem you're looking at is one of those it's a short pop-in arm with a collar that tightens the "swing". No threads or bushings, just one very small notch around the shaft 1/16" from the end.

I DID notice that many RGXs *didn't* use this trem - there is a different locking model that looks like it could be flipped to be left-handed. Mine isn't like that. So if yours isn't an RM-ProII, the bar may be different.

Re: Yamaha rgx1212a..ANY experiences..or with similar?

Some of the Yamahas had Floyd-compatible studs, and an OFR might drop in, as it did on one of my Pacifica bodies. But 3 of my other 4 "floyded" Pacificas had different post spacing. I think you'll have to measure.

Re: Yamaha rgx1212a..ANY experiences..or with similar?

A little late to the discussion, but maybe I can help. The RGX 1200 series guitars came with two different trem systems. In 1987, they came with the RM which is similar to a floyd setup. In 1988 <the good year> they came with the RM PRO. The Pro system is kinda half floyd / half kahler. The trem rout does fit a typical floyd bridge very nice, but the posts must be redrilled wider and a hair forward. RM PRO II's came out in early 1989 and went back to a typical floyd setup.
I've been collecting these Yamaha's for years now, and if anyone is interested in selling one, I'd be very interested.

Phantom Hawk
I have a 1988 pearl white RGX1212a (Serial # OK21154) with hardshell case that is in closet classic condition.
Interested? I am not sure what it is worth but it sure is a beauty!

I am cleaning up the one I just got take a look!
It is probably going the route of e*ay unless I fall in love.
Bought it from a guy who has not used it in 20 years.
Case & all. Only problem is the selector switch for the neck pickup is snapped off but I plan on fixing that as soon as I can find the right replacement.

Re: Yamaha rgx1212a..ANY experiences..or with similar?

I see this thread has been revived after 2 1/2 years.

If anyone has any parts for these trems, please let me know. I'm working on my friends SE1212, and some of the threads are stripped.

It is a very comfortable guitar. Ebony fretboard, stainless frets. Very impressive and high quality for an older MIK guitar.
