Yet Another New Carvin!

They seem to be really banging out the new models, huh?

Check this new one out!

It's the semi-hollow SH-550, sort of like the Howard Roberts Fusion that Alex Lifeson used to play, and it looks pretty damned good!

EDIT: Whoops, There's 2 new Carvins There's SH-575 as well, shown here with build in synth access.

Carvin is ROCKING 2008, I'll tell you that!

If they reverse the Ultra V...I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Re: Yet Another New Carvin!

Carvin makes some fantastic instruments and gear. When the need and funds come to me I might have to get some.

Re: Yet Another New Carvin!

What does the "synth access" do? Will someone break it down for me please?

I believe it is the same as having a Roland GK pickup built into the guitar. It has a Graphtech piezo bridge that is ready to feed a guitar synth controller of your choice. I am guessing it also acts as a normal piezo as well, given that it has two 1/4" outputs as well as the MIDI output.

Re: Yet Another New Carvin!

If Carvin would just ditch the crummy pickups and offer neck binding there would be no stopping them.

With the internet mentallity most have, people are buying guitars in droves without playing them first, so the old stigma of not being able to try before you buy that Carvin faced for many years is no longer the case, especially when you can just return it.

They could also do with some new inlay options too. IMO, strat shapes look silly with big block inlays as the only alternative to dots.

Carvin's are pretty sweet - the prices are very attractive too

Re: Yet Another New Carvin!

Those look really cool. Not a fan of the "extreme" quilts and flames, but they still look pretty neat, nonetheless.

Re: Yet Another New Carvin!

I'm a big fan of binding, but the availability of tung oiled necks takes that completely away as a 'must have' for me. Carvin fretwork is fantastic, so there's really no feel difference between their unbound necks and most bound ones. They are simply great necks to play, and the binding would really only add 'look' to the equation, not feel IMHO. As for the quilts and flames, you can order a top to your liking when you order; ask for subdued and that's what you'll get...ask for over the top, and that's what you'll get. Don't like the guitar at all, most of the time you can simply send it back. They definitely give it their best shot.

Re: Yet Another New Carvin!

You americans are really lucky!!!

We can't have them in Greece at the direct price! The dealer here doubles the direct price and changes the $ sign to euro!!!

+1!!

I have 3 Carvins and a CS6 on order.. The fretwork on all three is exemplary!! Neck binding would be nice but I wouldn't trade it for Carvin's present fret finishing.. Whom ever does this at Carvin needs a HUGE raise
