Your thoughts on the RGR521EX2

I saw one of these in a local guitbox shop and thought it was custom. i dropped a deposit on it to find out it was a limited edition from namm. if you guys haven't seen it, it has a black pearloid vine and reversed headstock. check it out:

what are your thoughts on it? it's $350; not bad for a guitar with a vine . if i follow through on the deal, i'm dropping a d-sonic and an AN in there, but i'm still skeptical. yay or nay?

Re: Your thoughts on the RGR521EX2

It's designed precisely for that: kids who describe things as 'rad'.

It looks like some laughable attempt at OMFG METULLLL!!!!!1111! appeal, I mean, look at the juvenile grim reaper inlay. And 'Designed by EMG' as opposed to real EMG pickups are a no-no. I imagine it plays to an acceptable standard, but I wouldn't be seen dead with it.

Re: Your thoughts on the RGR521EX2

I bought one of these in early october, and when i received it in the mail, the fretwork was bad, very sharp and inconsistant, plus the neck was barely screwed in to the body, the inlay work look good from far away but up close it was bad, some of the inlays were sticking out of the fingerboard,

stock pickups were not good, and mine came with a huge scratch. i was going to send it back but my brother like it so i had them exchange it and the next one came without a switch tip and a volume knob the electronics were not connected so there was no sound, instead of fixing it I just got a refund, also these were new from the factory not used or anything. so i figured after i spent 200 on pick ups, and 80 for a fret level and crown I could get something much better for $730, just my opinion.

ss.

I do like the style of the vine inlay, however not crazy about the reaper they used.

Sounds like this guitar is on the way to collector status already..... (yeah right..... the trash collector) limited quantities of a piece of junk!

It's such a travisty to call that thing an RGR521. RGR321 is more like it.

Re: Your thoughts on the RGR521EX2

Speaking of 8's..... I heard that Marten Hagstrom of Meshuggah is going to have a 16 string version made for him...... tuning will be F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E, E, B, G, D, A, E, B, F# plus the full "reaper" inlay will fit too! The body will be constructed from 16 ply Baltic birch ply as opposed to the standard CDX ply.

Ibanez was quoted as saying it would take about 6 mo. to complete. In the meantime Marten Hagstrom said it would give him time to learn where all the notes are on his 8 string first...... and to tune it. Plus the guitar can be played backwards too. Left handed or right handed!
