2 frets buzzing arghhh

So I noticed that frets 1 and 2 buzz when the action is set 2mm on bass side and 1.5 on treble. They buzz so bad that they don't even ring out notes!

Now, I've tried dressing the frets, even used 320 grit to level! but nothing! checked if it rocks and it still does when putting something straight on 1 2 and 3, it seems 2nd fret is too high or something?

Question is, How do I find out which fret is too high and how do I sort it out?

Help appreciated! its doing my head in >=(

Take it to a pro, he knows exactly what to do, it's only about 50 bucks and you can keep asking himto re-do it till you get what you want.

is your nut too low, or do you need a truss rod adjustment. Don't go sanding, hacking and slashing anything before you are sure there are no other causes for them fretting out

I'm sure some pro's will throw their advice around here, I can do it whatever it is that I need to do.

Thanks though.

I've tried raising the nut first and no luck, same thing was happening.

I've tried adjusting the truss rod and only a slight difference still buzzing, but the the thing is I like my neck straight rather than bowed.

last option i tried was levelling, but like I said, the 2nd fret is the highest i think, or maybe it raised when the neck had cracked.

NOW you say something! Yes this is highly likely. Pull and replace the fret. Level dress polish and play.

Haha was waiting for you :P

I MIGHT experiment with it, see if I can hammer the fret in a little, see any difference. Otherwise I'll do what you said

Cheers man

Re: 2 frets buzzing arghhh

Right, I've experimented enough ! The hammering in trick did not work and neither did levelling down fret 3 (which was higher than the rest)

Does it matter if its not the same frets as the original? I may just replace all 4 of the front ones.

Re: 2 frets buzzing arghhh

The frets should be the same size so that it feels consistent. In addition to crown height and width, you also have to accurately measure the fret tang, go with a slightly larger tang in most cases, and clean out the fret slot. Then properly re-install the frets, and give a good dressing. Whats your experience level with this stuff?

My experience is minimal/amateur but willing to try everything myself.

@Rob

I know which fret is causing the problem (fret 3) I just need to know a simple fix for it :\

That is a very helpful guide though! Thanks
