advice needed for strange fret-buzz on my UVGR - nasty buzz

Probably due to the cold or perhaps the locking nut, *or some other dang thang but...

I've got slight fret buzz happening, just barely on 4 of my strings, and it's good, but...
The low E, A, and high B are buzzing badly. much much worse than the rest.
I checked the neck it's pretty much straight as an arrow(perhaps it needs a little bow?).
I held down the string on the first and 24th fret and it looks like it should(maybe there is enough bow?)
I lifted both sides of my trem and the buzz is gone on the high B, but it's much too high for my taste.
I lifted the low string side of my trem up pretty high(2 turns at least) and the buzz is still prevalent on the low E and A strings, but a little better, just now it's lop-sided.
I'm kinda frustrated and could use some help.
The only thing I haven't tried is raising the height of the particular strings at the locking nut, which seems to be where the buzz occurs, but I'm not sure what to use.

any ideas or help would be real cool.

thanks, Robbie

Robbie, try this:

- give the neck a little tiny bit of bow, just a touch (give the truss-rod less then a quarter turn left, not more)

OR

- put a shim under the nut, better if a thin leaf of metal, or brass-foil, unless you have the original Ibanez shims

which way is that? left

is clockwise or counter-clockwise(looking from the top of the guitar down at the trussrod)?

oh sorry...
it's counter-clockwise, of course.
hey: just a little bit! that's like a medicine: a little much may be dangerous!

ok i just did something weird, but it looks like it worked.

I decided not to mess with the truss rod(because I think my bow is ok, and I don't have the friggin tool to adjust it anyway).

So I decided to raise my locking nut.

I don't have any shims so I improvised.

I replaced my wiper blades earlier in the day. As I was replacing my old blades, some long thin metal pieces came out. They ran the length of my wiper and helped keep the blade in place.

So I broke two of them off at the exact length of my locking nut. They fit perfectly over my shims and my bottom screws to go in between. They looked like the exact height I need to lose the buzz and perhaps lower my trem down even more.

So I went for it. It was like surgery fitting it all together and under the nut without removing my strings.
I had to lose the washers in between my bottom screws because they wouldn't screw in with these new little homemade shims, so I lost them(but kept them just in case).

retightened, tuned up, and played...

woe.....

buzz is gone. The height is different at the first couple of frets(for chording) and will take a little getting used to, but my buzz is gone!

I see no difference in sustain at all. that was a worry of mine.

looks like the old wiper blades did the trick....

just call me Fred G. Sanford!!!
