Care and feeding of a JS6 + serial # and neck questions

I just picked up a JS6 and it seems dry and dirty - how best to clean and revitalize the Ibanez SOL finish? Also, do all JS models have a serial # on the headstock AND a different one on the plate? I fear the neck on my JS may have been refinished and need to know if the factory job was a satin or high-gloss from the factory. Also, was the Ibanez logo on the "6" Gold or Black? This one looks to have been scraped off and a vinyl decal added after the fact, so I may have gotten hold of a JS that has been messed with. Thanks.

I seem to remember a beater 6 on ebay awhile back that had the logo scraped off. Would be black. No serial number on the head. To clean the body you pretty much have to sand it down and re tung oil it.

You probably don't have to go as far as sanding. A good rub-down with some ultra-fine steel wool and a few coats of fresh tung oil should do the trick. Just make sure you tape off (or remove) the pickups so you don't get steel wool filings in them.
