clicking sound on pull-up

This is a little weird, but _sometimes_ when I pull up on my trem, I hear a metallic clicking sound. The reason it's weird is that it's not all the time. It seems like it's only when I first pick up the guitar. after working the whammy bar for a while, the sound goes away. But I don't know what's causing it, because I'm pretty sure the only contact between the bridge and the guitar is at the contact points between the knives and the posts.

Has anybody else has this before? it's pretty annoying to have to do a bunch of pull-ups every time I pick up the guitar to get rid of that metallic click.

thanks,
Jeff.

Try tightening the nut (very slightly, dont do too much) it sounds like it's slightly loose.
That's what fixed my identical problem.

I should have mentioned, the metallic click sounds like it's coming from the bridge, not the neck...that's why I looked for any contact down there. Is this the same problem you had? I wouldn't think my problem would be caused by the nut, but I will give it a try.

me too

I noticed exactly the same thing last night before I took the neck off. I never did figure out what the trem was hitting to make the clicking noise, though. After I readjusted the neck, I didn't hear the noise anymore (of course, I also raised the trem, too).

Sounds like a bad stud to me. Gotoh has old machines and occasionall;y you'll get a groove right in the V, it will click as it moves over it either up or down.

But these are the studs I got from you, rich! :-) Do you think it might be something to do with the springs?

It's not like I can pre-test every stud

If you want to rule it out throw another stud in.
