A Couple Of Universe Trem Problems

I've got a 2000 UV777PBK and when I pull back or up to make the strings go sharp some of the strings fret-out or, that is to say, the strings touch the frets and just kind of 'clank', and the note stops. I know that will happen eventually if you pull up far enough but it happens way too early on this guitar. What could be causing it?
Also, the thing will not return to zero. This might be a question for Rich, was 2000 a year in which the posts were bad, as far as the pivot point? Which is why they came out with the new posts? I suppose I should just buy some new ones...

as far as i know,
the strings touch the frets when the action is too low, and when the saddles are moved too backward. the more backward they're placed, the more range they'll run when you push/pull the bar.

as for the posts, wait for Rich.

I haven't measured it but it feels the same if not a bit higher than my other Edge equipped Ibanez' guits.

I figured out what was making the notes stop dead : the pole pieces on the bridge pickup were too high and when I'd pull up they'd hit them. Duh. Still won't return to zero, so I'll have to order some new posts.
