Crackle paint finish

So I'm repainting a guitar and I'd like to do a crackle finish, like the ones you see on the old charvels. Just wondering if anyone here knows of a way to do it properly so I don't screw it up lol

Re: Crackle paint finish

It's an automotive grade paint that is applied after a 2 part automotive clear is applied. Not just something you can do with rattle can...not sure what kind of setup you have, or if you have refinished a guitar before - but it's not that easy of a DIY project without a professional setup.

Here is one I did a while back...

That looks awesome man, and yea I've got a couple of spray guns and a compressor I've been using for a couple of years now with good results. Could you explain the process?

Re: Crackle paint finish

I agree with Rodzo. I have been a painter since '89 and it took me 3 tries to crackle my charvel. Also the stuff was like $160 shipped from the UK for a pint of the cracle medium. If you figure it out it is awesome though. Need to do a couple more before I got Rodzo quality though. Thanks Rodzo for the advice.
