custom guitar idea RGA121

Guys I have an idea for modding a guitar but I've never done it before.

Take an RGA121 - should cost about $500 used. I just saw one go on the BAY for $380 with case.

I am not sure about getting the board done.

Mods:
* maple board (birdseye or flame), scalloped top 4 frets, plus markers (cherry wood dots?)
* stain (red)
* new pups (Evo bridge, Air Norton or ? neck) help me out here...
* remove the tone nob.

I need help w/prices to see if it's worth it. This should cost under $1000.

Cost:
* guitar: $500
* Board : no idea (anyone) plus pro setup, including PLEK.
* Swapping out the pups will cost ~$200.

The result should be pretty cool.

You'd better add 25 or so bucks for new pots, swithches and socket - the standard Ibanez fare is a bit so-so on these guitars - you'll end up with a pretty cool guitar, but it will still be worth $500 - just bear that in mind!

OK - new pots. Good idea. Don't care about reselling it. I'm modding it for myself.

How much should I expect to pay for getting the fingerboard replaced (to maple with dot inlays)?

Re: custom guitar idea RGA121

Well I found that it's going to cost $600 for a new fingerboard. That is a little too much.

I like the neck it has, but want a maple board.

What is a cheaper way to get a maple board? Should I get a board that is premade? Should I buy a whole new neck? I like that neck and it fits the guitar perfectly.

Please advise.

Did you look around at different places for the new fingerboard?
You also dont NEED it Plek'd, its nice but it's also about $200. You can always have that done later.

No, I haven't looked for a new board or neck. Where should I look?

The neck it comes with is very high quality.

I have a 121, is an amazing guitar.

My advice is to keep the fingerboard as it is and get scalloped the top 4 frets.

About the pickups i have tried A LOT of pickups in my 121:
Neck PU liked: Dimarzio/IBZ N, PAF Pro, Evolution N, SH-6n, D Activator N
Neck PU didn't liked: Air Norton, SH-2N
Bridge PU liked: Miracle Man, Air Norton, Evolution B, D Activator B, TB-4
Bridge PU didn't liked: Dimarzio/IBZ B, Tone Zone

I found a maple fingerboard on e-bay for 12.75. but as stated, the labor is too costly.

I really do like the stock neck; It's a great neck. I'd like a replacement that is similar in quality and features - with a maple board,

kemono: i doubt you'll find one, since ibanez started making these necks (classic wizard 5pc prestige) they haven't introduced a single maple board prestige RG. the only thing you could do is to get a 3pc wizard II from RG350 (Which is not japanmade)

If you don't mind my asking, where did you get your switch & pots? online?
