Ebony fretboard - How to clean...

After my set screw drama... I would like to take on other tasks...

Check out these pics....

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...amp;p=50815326

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...amp;p=50808475

Notice the fretboard? Its sort of dirty-non shiny...

I cleaned it recently with fretboard conditioner oil, and rubbed with a cloth, but as you can see it yielded less than amazing results

I dont understand why it looks like that, cause it has NO fretwear at all, so it cant have been played that much...

Thanks guys

Julio

I imagine you're reffering to where the ebony polishes with play?

Yes. there are shiny sort of parts.
although the jem7v ha MUCH more fretwear, this shine seems less noticeable, although this could be due to the inlay.

Can anything be done to get the clean oily look?

I love that oily look on Ebony.... * That is the whole point of the wood...

But you can remove it quite easily....

What you need is the 3M scouring pads for dishes and pots... *Use some furniture polish as a lubricant and then scrub away the beautiful shine....

Then lightly oil the fretboard with lemon oil to bring back the darkness of the ebony....

and your done!

Mmmmmm........not sure If I understood that...
.......Not sure If I know what im talking about.......:loco:

I think what youre saying Spiro is that shiny=oily.
The problem I see is that if u look at the pics there are shiny parts and "dull" parts...its not an even finish................

I dont know....Im probably talking nonsense....

4 aught steel wool will take the shinies off. Rub in the direction of the grain.

I'm not a fan of using steel wool on guits as it leaves residue all over the board and guit.....

the plastice type scouring pads seem to do a better job and less messy when finishing up....
