Question Edge arm holder wobble

Hey, I have an rg 570 and the trem works great except that the trem arm holder wobbles a bit, which is noticable during pull ups. I tried to tigthen it several times, but it still wobbles. Is there a quick fix or do I have to buy a new arm holder? (i found no other thread and the search function doesn't seem to work)

Re: Edge arm holder wobble

If the arm holder itself is loose, and you can see the holder itself wobble, tighten it (*important) not too much or THE ARM HOLDER WILL SNAP, this has happened to me). And use some jb-weld (blue or *maybe* red, you don't want it to be permanent).

If the arm holder itself doesn't seem to be moving, it could very will be (and most likely is) the Bushings on your trem arm. These are those two plastic things at the bottom of the arm, and they hold the arm still and make it easy (or even possible) to flutter etc. I suggest you get some new ones, you can order them from Rich, I believe he has some in stock. However, even after I got my bushing from rich, I'm still using the original ones that came with my RG because of this one trick, and Steve Vai's tech uses it: Put a lighter flame under the bushing, don't do it too long, or they will melt, and burn. They will start to discolor a little, and thats okay, I normally heat them until they start to discolor, then put the trem back in, then repeat as needed.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Re: Edge arm holder wobble

As mentioned above the arm holder itself is loose and is fully tightened but still moves. I like the bushings beeing a bit loose, makes holding the arm while picking easier. It really is the holder itself and I tried the tutorial on ibanezrules. I will look for some loctite and use it on the threads in the baseplate. I once installed a schaller trem arm and maybe the threads are a bit damaged from that. If anyone has some tips, feel free to help me out.

^How many times have you changed the arm holder? If you are over-tightening, it could have damaged the threads, but I'm not sure. Maybe some pics or a video would help.

btw, I intended to say Locktite, not JB weld.

Re: Edge arm holder wobble

Thanks Linuxpenguin. The teflon tape solved the problem. I put some on the threads of the holder, but after that I noticed some wobble from the arm and put some under the bushings. The arm stays where put and no wobble left.

Re: Edge arm holder wobble

Are you using one, or both bushings?

I'm 99.9% sure your bushings are worn. And the flame trick is a lot more reliable then teflon tape (glad it solved the other problem though!). bushings wear very fast, and in my experience, all of the tape tricks, and the super glue/nail polish things, just complicate things down the road.

So do me a favor and burn you whammy bar

Re: Edge arm holder wobble

Yeah the teflon tape somehow managed to get out from under the bushings. I tried nail polish yesterday and it works, but surely enough my whammy bar will BUUUUUUURRRN (just have to find a lighter)
