Edge Vs. Edge pro?

I'm slowly upgrading my RG350DX with some new pickups and a new bridge! What I need help deciding is which Edge is better...I've never liked an OFR for some reason, save for on one guitar. I want to know if the Orignal Edge or the Edge Pro is better and also if both will retrofit! Soooooo, which is best?

Re: Edge Vs. Edge pro?

the edge pro will retrofit with no routing required where as the original edge will require routing.

get an edge pro and some locking studs off rich at ibanezrules.com and you're set.

Re: Edge Vs. Edge pro?

Yea the EDGE will require lotta of routing while the EDGE PRO will be a direct drop in the EDGE III Cavity. I tried both, and honestly I liked the EDGE more. It feels different specially with dive bombing. Sorry, can't explain how it feel.

BTW. the OFR will not be a direct drop too as people say.. You will need to remove some part of the wood at the edge of the cavity from behind, because when you pull up, it will hit the body. So the EDGE PRO is fine for the RG350DX. I own a RG370DX myself.

What color will you pick ? I cant' find the black one, so I will get a gold one and change some stuff to gold to match the bridge color.

Good luck

Re: Edge Vs. Edge pro?

I'd say go with the Edge Pro if for no other reason than that it doesn't require the routing. I have guitars with both and I like the lower profile of the EP. Both are fine and work perfectly well from a functional stand point. Maybe head to a store and give the Jem or JS a whirl to see how you get on with the EP. If it doesn't work for you, some places might have a used Edge equipped Ibanez.

Re: Edge Vs. Edge pro?

Thanks everyone! I think I will go with the gold EP! Is it possable to make the EP bar stiff or does it have to be all loose and floppy? BTW, I've worked out what I think will be an awesome Pickup setup for my guitar: A DiMarzio PAF Joe in the Neck, A Fernandes Single Coil Sustainer and DiMarzio D activator Bridge!

Re: Edge Vs. Edge pro?

I think you're gonna have a problem with a sustainer instead of the middle pup. A sustainer system needs as much distance between the sustainer driver and the bridge pup to be effective and work correctly. Thats why the sustainer driver ideally is mounted in the neck position.

Re: Edge Vs. Edge pro?

This is taken from the sustainiac website, not fernandez but the basic working principle of a sustainer system should be the same.

The driver works best in the neck pickup slot. The bridge pickup signal is the best input signal for the sustainer. There are good reasons for this:

* There must be plenty of distance between pickup and driver. The driver radiates a pulsating magnetic field in response to the bridge pickup signal. The bridge pickup responds to this pulsating magnetic field by producing a pulsating output signal. This is similar to the problem you get when you put a microphone too close to the speaker in a PA system. The speaker pulsates in response to the microphone signal. The microphone responds to the pulsating speaker signal (sound). Uncontrolled oscillation (squealing) occurs until you reduce the system gain setting. If you turn it down too much, it no longer functions well.
* The input signal should be rich in upper harmonics. The bridge pickup signal is best for this.
