Fernandes Sustainer Troubleshoot

If I could nab someone's help for a minute it would be most appreciated

I brought my old guitar to a luthier to have the fernandes sustainer fsk-401 & pickups taken out and put into an rg570.

2 things-

1) The sustainer switch functions are switched- meaning when the mode selector switch is up, it turns on the harmonic mode, and when the switch is flipped down it turns on the normal note sustain mode. The on/off switch functions as it should

2) The harmonic mode doesn't work. I get a signal out of the guitar pickup normally, but it won't grab onto a note like it should. I have to pick it hard and dive down far with the bar to get the note to hold out with the harmonic, but after I lift the bar up it stops.

Everything else functions normally, when the sustainer is off all pickups function normally.

I have tried messing with the pots (which on the old guitar I had most turned up) to no avail, in fact it makes it worse.

Anybody have any problems similar to this they they have solved? The board isn't defective as I used it for years installed in my old guitar

Thanks in advance for any help anybody is able to give me.

Re: Fernandes Sustainer Troubleshoot

The first thing to do is to put in a brand new battery.....after that-

- try adjusting the mbc pot through its range while playing (sustainer on). This is the mode balance control. You want to adjust it so that both modes work equally.

- adjust the FGC to full gain (driver output control)

- adjust the AGC to 10 (full) this is the sustainer gain control. Keep it at 10 unless you get feedback. If your getting feedback, decrease the AGC just til the feedback stops.

- lastly, increase the VBC to see if it helps. The vibration control may help but the higher it's set- the shorter time your battery will last.

If all of this fails to help you, then there's either a wiring problem OR your luthier damaged the board while installing it.

Thanks. Tried all of that, I think because the modes are switched it has something to do with the harmonic mode failure. I was wondering if anybody knew what precise wire it could be a problem with. I have faith my luthier will figure it out but the easier I can make it the more at ease I'll feel
