Finish stripping!? its hell...

Ok I've used various super strength chemicals and lots of heat gun and scraper... Can someone please tell me what is the best way to get that infamous Ibanez deleted uranium coating off. I've had the best luck with heat gun and scraper but there's a lot of gouges happening and im trying to save this body. Is there any other bonified way to remove this?

Thanks,
JL

Palm sanders can be useful for flat areas, but personally I wouldn't use it anywhere you feel you may accidentally change the original shape.

I'd say persist with the heat gun but my advice is to heat it up a lot more than you think you need to. Really hold then gun on there for a while and be patient doing small areas at a time. The paint will eventually come off with hardly any scraping and you'll avoid a lot of those gouges.

Are you eventually shooting a solid colour or a trans/stain? If solid you can probably cover a lot of those small scratches with a decent primer.

Thanks. I plan to finish it with a veneer top and a darker clear color on the back. I know the gun can very easily leave charring but a bit of sanding and staining should take care of that. Whatever is not covered by the veneer just builds character in my opinion!

Yeah, sounds like you should be okay. From my own recent experience you tend only to char the original sanding sealer and you're going to probably want to sand that all back anyway. Good luck with it all!
