Smile Fitting a Prestige neck into old AANJ body

Hi everyone! My name is Ben. I would like to ask if anyone has fitted a Prestige neck into an old AANJ body before? I'm aware that the heel of an old AANJ body is 56mm while that of the prestige necks are 58mm.

Right now, I'm having an old RG570 body and a Prestige neck stamped RG1820x. What I would like to know is how i may modify the old AANJ body to fit the prestige neck.

All help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance too.

Yes, you can fit it in. You might need to sand a bit of the sides down. But otherwise, in terms of screw holes, they fit.

Is there any particular area to sand, as we won't want a case where the screw holes don't align.

I would widen the cheaper body then narrow the more expensive neck... just my 2 cents...

So you mean that it will require sanding both body and neck? how much each then??

You have 3 options:
1. Sand only the body
2. Sand only the neck
3. Sand both

linux is saying sand only the body. The neck will be more expensive to replace than the body if you mess anything up.

His typo just confused you a little:

Don't worry about the screw holes lining up--those can be plugged and redrilled.

Re: Fitting a Prestige neck into old AANJ body

Hey Ben, sorry it took so long to get back to you. I wanted to take pictures of me doing my Prestige neck (7 string) into non-prestige body (OOTS swirl), but time has not allowed me to do that yet.

What you need to do first is to get VERY accurate measurements of both the heel of your neck and the pocket in the body....right now were only concerned with the width of the pieces. If you have a metric caliper, that would be the best tool to use.

This is a metric caliper:

the caliper does not have to be metal...... but it DOES have to be accurate.

These are the places you want to measure:

If there is paint on the sides of the body cavity, you'll want to sand that away first......if not, get the measurements now.

Your also going to want a metal ruler that has millimeters clearly marked.
I use one that has a cork bottom to avoid unwanted scratches.
You'll use this ruler during the sanding process, so I highly suggest finding one.

Like this:

When you have you measurements, please post back and we'll go to the next step.

Ryc

Wow! Thanks so much. Should I measure the places right at the screw holes? I'm afraid if I don't take a reference point, the measurement may be inaccurate.

Re: Fitting a Prestige neck into old AANJ body

I stuck a J craft Prestige neck on a RG520 body and all it took was scraping the paint off the sides of the neck pocket. The older, before Jcraft with the walnut stripes, 1570 prestige necks are a direct fit to Fujigen RG bodies.

using a reference point is always a good idea, but is not really necessary here. the pocket should be the same width throughout. The same goes for the heel on the neck
