Found this neck on fleabay....

I was looking thru the listings for my next project, and I found this neck for sale. It just arrived today. This is what real guitar abuse looks like.

WARNING: These pictures are graphic in nature and may be upsetting to children, the elderly, or Ibanez guitar enthusiasts. View at your own discretion.

I got this on the cheap. Decided to take a chance on it. It was accurately described in the listing.

Whomever owned this previously to the seller decided it would be a good idea to spray it matte black with the hardware still on.

Fretboard included:

As if that wasn't bad enough. They were apparently nearsighted, so they took a paint pen and did their own custom markers on the neck binding.

I suppose a wood finish neck was an eyesore also....

This used to be a '97 RG 450DX.

The humanity.......

Re: Found this neck on fleabay....

The frets look less played than most wall pieces I've seen. Little tarnished but hardly any wear at all.

Here's what I found under the poop...

This'll def be usable unless somebody buys it off me beforehand.

I had to scrub the hell out of it, but looks worth it for 45 bucks!

Hell, if I knew it would clean up this well, I'd have given 47.50!

Re: Found this neck on fleabay....

Well, I got a message from the guy who sold me the neck, and as luck would have it, I just bought the body! Original neck screws and ferrules too! It's a front-route, so I know I'll need a new pickguard, but I could use some ideas with what so do with this one. (After I get the crap off it.)

Thoughts? The factory paint is still good under the spray job. It's all white and I'm pretty sure it had black hardware.

Not swirling it as I still have the sunset swirl to finish, but open to other ideas!

whatever you decide to do, you need to email a pic of it back to the seller when it is finished.

Re: Found this neck on fleabay....

You did a great job, and a great favor to ibby lovers What did you end up using to scrub with? Looks like you could get the 'going' ebay rate of 100ish for an ibanez neck now.

Re: Found this neck on fleabay....

I used an old t-shirt and a ton of mineral spirits.

No, this one will be rebuilt, and played.

Re: Found this neck on fleabay....

So the body is en-route, but I've run into a problem.....

I've scoured the interwebz looking for the right model pickguard for it, but I'm coming up empty. It's a RG 450DX WH '97, MIK. I know there are slight differences in screw hole placement between MIJ's and MIK's and I'd rather not have to fill and tap new ones in the factory finish.

Does anyone know if there's a compatible pickguard on other models that I could use for a reference? I see plenty on the bay but I'm doubtful they'd line up 100%.
