hi im getting some fretbuzz through the first 4 frets and after that its fine.. ive tried adjusting the thrussrod a bit and it didnet really help much.. im out of ideas and the weird thing is it happens on both my js2400 and 1200 guitars any ideas on how to fix it? i was thinking maybe putting a shim under the nut and that would help it

A shim won't help in this case.

How much relief is there in your neck? (see Ibanezrules.com for a tutorial on setup)

It sounds to me like your neck is too straight. That usually causes low fret buzz.

Just for reference, since all guitars and preferences are different, I typically set up my guitars with about a .3 mm relief at the 8th fret and my action is about 2.1mm -1.6mm (low to high) at fret 24. Lower than I used to since I had a stroke and it's not as easy to play any more. But I digress...

I get little to no buzzing, depending on the fret wear and they play like a dream.

Unless you're looking for crazy low action (1mm or less) I wouldn't suggest a relief of less than .2mm. Any straighter and you're going to have buzz just about everywhere.

Yeah, sounds like you need to loosen the truss rod a little more. If the open strings ring fine you don't need a shim.
