Red face Guitar condition question?

What does pitting mean when used to describe a trem?

I've always thought it to mean some finish damage but the kind that doesn't interfere with the functionality or playability of the trem!

Re: Guitar condition question?

pitting corrosion plagues bridges. salt from your sweat literally sits in one place and oxidizes the tremolo unit. 90% of the time, its purely a cosmetic issue.

Re: Guitar condition question?

Pitting is the wrong word. I call it pimpling. The sweat gets under the finish, corrodes the base metal, and cause it to raise, in a pimple.

Re: Guitar condition question?

When the top comes off the pimples then you can call it a pit. A pit by definition is

A natural or artificial hole or cavity in the ground. 2. a. An excavation for the removal of mineral deposits; a mine

Until then, it's a pimple

Re: Guitar condition question?

Pimpling on the bass side of the trem is very common for players who rest their hand there while playing. I think that's why i never have any issues with my trems.

Re: Guitar condition question?

Blow the head off that thing and you'll have a pit. Before then, it's still a pimple!!!!

Only because we don't take him seriously

I'll meet you halfway,

It's in the process of pitting, so it is "pitting" [verb], but the little protrusions from the surface are pimples [noun], not pits, by definition! So by definition, it is also "pimpling" [verb]. When the tops are off them I call them pits [noun], but it is very rarely seen. Pimpling common, the actual exposed pits, rare.

I also call it blistering

blistering is acceptable vernacular.

Re: Guitar condition question?

Another thread resurection, sorry for that ! Anythung that can be done about pitting/pimpling ? My cosmo Edge Pro on my Floral 15th is getting quite a few of those, as well as the neckplate, which is weird because there hardly gets any sweat on the neckplate, wonser where the bubbles there originated from ?

Anyway, can anything be done to remove those annoting pits/pumples/bubbles ?

I tried wiping with some microfiber cloth and only managed to get some if the bkack cosmo of the Edge Pro ...

Thanks for tour help !
