I have a a 2003 JS1000 and I am about to embark on tour, but I cannot sharpen the e string, only flatten it. How do I fix this?

Loosen the lock nut, unscrew the fine tuner to about 1/2 way, then using the tuner on the headstock, tune the high e. lock the nut then fine tune.

This is what I am doing but I will be playing on stage every night, I'm hoping to be able to use the fine tuner to tune my guitar

maybe you haven't been stretching out your strings enough? The high E string takes more rotation to sharpen than say the low E string so this problem is a little more prominent generally. I make sure i stretch my strings out really well and that helps the problem. It's in the nature of the string itself so can't really do much about it

If you mean it won't even go down as close to the baseplate as the other fine tuners will go, then I imagine the saddle is very far forward. So the bottom of th saddle is hitting the baseplate before you can bottom out the fine tuner. If that's the case, you have to first determine if the saddle is far forward because it needs to be for intonation, or if it slipped all the way forward because the nut was loose. If you haven't intonated the guitar then it's all premature.

A picture would do us wonders as we could tell right off the bat whether the saddle is too far up or not
