I have a question about nuts...

Hopefully that got your attention. I have a slight dilemma. I ordered a Graphtech nut to replace the crappy plastic one on a Samick Strat copy, but the nut that it came with is 4mm taller and 3mm thicker. My question is can I just fill in the slot, check the distance, and re slot it for this nut? Thanks in advanced!!

Re: I have a question about nuts...

Wasn't sure if it would have a big negative impact on the resonance guitar. so you think it will work?

Yeah it'll be BIG like it'll sound like a completely different instrument or it'll ruin its resonace.

Ok but please please, never mention nuts again, there are too many here already

Re: I have a question about nuts...

Or, you could order a nut blank, so instead of working on the guitar, you're working on a six-buck piece of material, and fitting it to the guitar's needs.

It is always best to get the correct fit, rather than trying to shim or use filler. Contact the company about returning your existing one for the appropriate product.

This is a better solution. It's easier and will give better results.

Re: I have a question about nuts...

graph tech makes a LOT of different nut sizes, the height is an easy fix with files/razor saws, but the width is kindof a show stopper. As others have stated already, modifying the nut slot of the neck seems much more risky than starting with a blank, or taking more careful measurements of the existing nut and ordering one of graphtech's nuts that matches more closely.

Re: I have a question about nuts...

Graphtech has a lot of different templates, So i'm sure you could just send it back, and get one with the appropriate dimensions.
