Ibanez Edge Tremelo question

Hi,

I have an old ibanez edge tremelo that goes on an old ibanez roadstar and have a question. The flat knife edge sits below the round edge, as in the knife edge is a tiny bit lower than the round edge...its not a straight line from edge to edge...there is a slight angle...bit hard to explain really and i will add photos some point soon.

Question is when i place this against the studs it is not exactly straight and flush due to round edge sticking a tiny bit out more than the knife edge. The angle is not much and subtle.

Hope this makes sense...and would really appreciate any help as to whether this angle is normal.

Thanks
Danny

Re: Ibanez Edge Tremelo question

Trying to clarify..... Do you mean the curved knife on the treble side of the trem is at a different height than the straight knife on the bass side?

Re: Ibanez Edge Tremelo question

Hi there, cheers. the height on the studs is the same from edge to edge. The round edge where it meets the stud is slightly closer to the bridge than where the knife edge meets the stud. When you put the tremelo against the studs it's not straight line and looks at a slight angle when both edges are on the stud. I The forum will not let me post or link a photo.

Really appreaciate any help.
Thanks
Danny

Re: Ibanez Edge Tremelo question

Ok, I get what you meaning.
More than likely the stud that is a little closer to the pickup has "ovaled" the hole that it is in. To test this, pull the trem off and see if you can make the anchor wiggle, using the stud, in the hole. If the anchor moves even the slightest bit, that is your problem. It's a simple fix if it is indeed your problem.

Re: Ibanez Edge Tremelo question

Thanks for your reply. Yes it could be that, i will check when i have the guitar in hand later.

I think what i am trying to say is that when the tremelo is off the guitar, the knife edge if i draw a ruler line to the round edge where they would meet the studs, is lower, its not straight. It maybe that it is more recessed than the round edge causing this angle.Maybe i could just file away the round edge a bit to make it even with the knife edge so it sits straight against the studs?

------------------ Round edge ( this difference is causing the angle)

Knife Edge

Really would like to post a picture.
Thanks
Daniel

Daniel, get your post count up to 10 so that you can post a picture.

For reference, this is what the knife edges normally look like:

Re: Ibanez Edge Tremelo question

Woohoo worked out how to add a link. Cool. Thanks. Hopefully this help explains it. See how the round edge is higher than the knife edge?
